  1. That’s too bad. With all his warts an wrinkles I would have supported him in a 2020 presidential run. Still would.

Dad blast it! Fudge! Fiddlesticks! Doggone it! And all the other not-quite-swearwords suitable for Momma’s ears. You may substitute the originals, plus a few, if you are so inclined.

This only happens to Democrats without ironclad proof of multiple offenses. Want to bet that Moore wins and is seated without further ado?

    Note to Micr: Me, too.

  4. Charles R Phillips says:

I’m voting Green from now on. The democrats eat their own, and the best and brightest at that.

BTW, Keith Ellison should get that opening, not an impotent place-holder from Dayton’s office. We need fire in the belly NOW, not after 2018.

  5. @Charles R Phillips

    RE Ellison, I agree.

  6. Jane & PKM says:

Jennifer Granholm would be another good candidate. Definitely not a place-holder.

Lost in the details will Sen Franken press forward with the Senate ethics investigation? That could be an important step, if Donnie and Moore are to be given equal treatment and inspection.

  7. Charles R Phillips says:

    PKM, coupla points here;
    1. Granholm? has she left Michigan?
    2. No way there should be an ethics hearing. Both parties will properly object to it, dems because it could back-fire, repubs because it may lead to calls for more of the same for Cheeto Smallhands and Moore if he wins.

  8. Jane & PKM says:

Mr. Phillips, I don’t believe that former MI Gov Granholm has left MI.

You could be correct as Democrats do have a way of snatching defeat from an otherwise victory. Democratic leadership and those who called for Franken’s resignation should definitely sit down with him to detect any minefields. As I understand it he is only admitting to the picture and recalls the other allegations differently. As for the Republicans they need to have Donnie and Moore hung around their necks and be called out every time about not having an ethics investigation of those two.

  9. Remember this when 2018 doesn’t turn out the voters.

The perfect once again destroys the good.

Granholm isn’t eligible to be appointed to replace Franken. Miss Debbo sez Ellison can’t get support from rural Minnesotans.

I’d like to see Ellison as senator for no other reason than to freak right wing Islamaphobes in Congress. But if he won’t be supported by Dems in 2018 they stand a chance of losing this seat.

Something else is bothering me, too. Why aren’t wingnuts being called out, too. Seems to dead Breitbartish that basically only Dems have been naughty.

    11
  11. This should be a question for his constituents, not for other senators to decide. I’m streamed.p

  12. I’m a Minnesotan and was a major Franken backer. But. Not. Now. I’m deeply disappointed and so angry with Al because he f*cked this all up.

Tina Dupuy is a comedian I’ve listened to several times on Sirius radio’s “Tell Me Everything” show hosted by John Fugelsang. They often discuss politics. She’s very liberal and has known Al for many years. He has groped her and Tina had an internal struggle for several days about coming forward because she supported Al’s policies and efforts in Congress. However, she said she felt like she couldn’t let the other women twist in the wind for telling the truth. Among comedians, an insular group, Al was known as a serial groper of boobs and butts.

After hearing from her today — well shit. I had to give up any excuses for Sen. Franken.

Get your ass out of there Al, and don’t let the door hit ya. You let Minnesota down!

    13
  13. Next year Minnesota elects a new governor because Mark Dayton is retiring from politics. Big loss for Minn because Mark has shown himself to be a genuinely good and decent human being. There are at least a dozen people from both parties either officially or probably in the running. We’ll also have 8 congressional seats on the ballot. Now add a Senate seat and it will be interesting.

Tina Smith is Dayton’s LG and my 1st choice to replace Al. She’s very smart and tough. Unfortunately, she doesn’t want the job full time. There’s talk of Keith Ellison of Minneapolis and Betty McCollum of St. Paul. Both are equally liberal. MN Democrats haven’t lost a statewide office in years, but —– as epo said, either of those two exceptionally fine Congresspeople, might have a tough time because greater Minnesota is more conservative than MSP.

There has also been talk that a governor candidate or two might switch to the Senate. I heard a rumor that Erik Paulsen or Tom Emmer, snacilbupeR reps, might consider Senate runs. Emmer is in crazy Michelle Bachmann’s old district, most conservative and reliably GOP in MN. Paulsen’s re-election in his district is no sure bet. He cultivates a moderate image but he’s been one of Orange Whore’s lapdogs.

As for the Democrats, I don’t know. I’ve heard Angie Craig’s name bandied about, but I want her to stay here and beat my disgusting and embarrassing current, 1st term congressman, Jason you-disgust-me Lewis. Erin (her last name momentarily escapes me), Dem leader in the state Senate, has also been talked about. She’s a nurse with great labor cred. She’d be my choice.

It’s going to be interesting. For the best reporting go to Minnpost.com.

  14. Elizabeth Moon says:

This is not a case of the perfect destroying the good–that does happen, but this isn’t it. This is a case of realizing that right now, at this time in history, the party claiming to be more ethical than the GOP has to clean its own house. I doubt, Ormond Otvos, that you hang out on parts of social media I do…where the kind of women voters who gave Clinton the popular victory are…and they are not in the mood to put up with their concerns being pushed aside again. To put it mildly.

It’s a crying shame that Franken had something to admit to. Or that the Dems continued (like the GOP) to do a crap job screening potential candidates for landmines in their history and or being firm with them about behavior in office because (back then and still too often) the man’s career was WAY more important than what some woman thought about being treated like a sex doll. And no, Franken’s never been in the same range of misconduct as Trump and Moore and many others. But this is now, not ten years or twenty years ago. His presence in the Senate would mean Dems having NO traction with regard to GOP predators.

And any hints that women should just suck it up because X is such so important to the [party/organization/company/university] are going to meet iron resistance from women most of you have never heard of. But I have. And if a bunch of disgruntled men want to blame something on women (as usual) and go vote Green or some other useless out-party and force a loss and then say “See, it’s all you wimmins’ fault for daring to ask us to treat you right…” then boyz, it’s YOUR fault. Every party has eaten its *girl* children. Used them, abused them, and then belittled the damage and told “the girls” to get over it and let the men deal with *real* issues.

Sons of Texas: we are real people. With real needs. That affect half at least of the population that has two X chromosomes instead of a Y. Our issues are real issues. And we’re tired of being f***ed with and told to step aside and wait another election or fifty so the men can concentrate on what’s important. It’s not my mother’s era when she was expected to do the scutwork at precinct and county conventions and some of the men (with their wives not there) were trying to look down her blouse and up her skirt and cop a feel. No more of that. You want our votes? You want our contributions? You want volunteers to do this and that? Then you take our issues seriously. Sexual harassment, assault, and rape aren’t jokes. Our bodies are not your playthings. And those sexual misconduct incidents *also* affect our access to education, to employment, to earned promotion–affect our health, our income and thus our ability to care for our families.

  15. Wish I could feel good about what Kirsten Gellibrand has done but I really can’t. She looks a helluva lot like somebody fighting for women but its more political than heroic. She is planning on running for president. Her NRA rating is good. Consequently she has to be seen “cleaning house.” Its also a party over-reaction to the under-reaction during the Clinton years. I’m for this up to a very short point, but otherwise I can’t get over excited.
