“Major Announcement”

January 19, 2019 By: El Jefe Category: Border Catastrophe, Shutdown, Trump

The Celebrity Apprentice Whitehouse Edition presidency continues today with Trump’s self described “major announcement” coming this afternoon.  Coming off a simply awful week of reality television drama, cheesy mobster stories, and the steady drumbeat of continuous chaos, it looks like Trump is finally going to cave to reality and do a deal for “border security”, trading DACA reform in return.  In other words, he’s probably going to accept exactly what the Dems offered last year.  PoliticoPlayoff this morning is saying that, even though the WH is trying to keep a lid on it, Trump is dying to play golf but can’t since he’s painted himself into the White Supremacists Corner.  He needs him a tee time.

Personally I’d trade Trump billions for his silly wall he’ll feature on high-repeat Celebrity Apprentice Whitehouse Edition if we can set free almost 800,000 DACA folks and 800,000 federal workers from his hostage taking.  We’ll be watching later today, and I’m SURE we’ll have an opinion.

Be social and share!

That’s an optimistic take. I’m worried he’s going to declare a national emergency.

  2. When the words “major announcement” were used the mental picture I got was from Christmas Story where the dad was going to win a “major award”. Suppose we are getting the “major” leg lamp!

  3. I’m with the first poster. Hr said that Pelosi ought to be sure to watch; he doesn’t sound to me to be in s conciliatory mood. I think his bigoted base would be furious at any deal that legitimizes anyone here already. Most of those morons seem to want to hunt them down. I hope I’m wrong but I fear this whole thing will get worse before it get better.

  4. What about the landowners, businesses, and wildlife the wall will
    adversely affect?

  5. I’d like him to just sign the bill he was about to sign, the one that passed both houses, before two little rightwing devils on his shoulder told him not to. No wall was involved there. We shouldn’t have to trade billions for his damn wasteful, destructive, pointless, racist wall to get a decent future for the Dreamers, no matter what the Washington Post editorials keep pushing.

@Lavon: You really think that the God-Emperor of the United States gives a hoot about landowners, businesses, or wildlife? He wants the Donald John Trump Memorial Wall! Logic, reason, compassion, even thought, have nothing to do with it. He wants it; no justification necessary.

@ Rhea: I’d like to see him sign the bill he rejected, too, after a bipartisan deal was passed–but I doubt that he will. I want the House to refuse any compromise that doesn’t include a clear, irrevocable path to citizenship for the Dreamers without a ton of fees for those who qualify, and an immediate end to the government shutdown. If we can’t get that, Trump can continue to sit in the White House and keep right on missing his golf.

  7. Trump’s approval ratings have sunk down near the lowest layer of the swamp, even slipping with his base. If on this episode of Celebrity Apprentice – Horsetrading Edition he holds out a carrot rather than a stick, he might crawl out of his self created mess by taking on the rare role as voice of reason. He may even attempt to appear Presidential. He could sprinkle in phrases such as “reach out across the aisle” or “this is how Washington works, let’s get everyone back to work.”

Trump has already tried the belligerent bully character for a month and his ratings have tanked. But who knows who will show up today? Will on-message TelePrompTer Trump smile into the camera, or the snorting bum steer with Mad Cow Disease? He desperately wants us to stay tuned, and keep us guessing. Will he offer Nancy Pelosi a choice of what she can see behind Door #1, or unseen behind Door #2 and Door #3?

Mostly for those of us playing at home, will watching him on our TV sets have the same effect as if we plugged our own two fingers into the wall socket?

    Turn on.
    Tune in.
    Wig out.

Plenty of pundits will ‘cansplain whatever Dotard45 says, but will probably tune them out, too. For what’s really happening in the news there’s The World’s Most Dangerous Beauty Salon, Inc. and SNL’s “Weekend Update.” Watch Donnie? Not a chance.

His wall demand is about 5% of what is needed, not including the eminent domain fights. On the other hand, significant concessions, aside from the upcoming announcement’s offer coming from his immediate sphere, may be worth it. Want $5B?
Full and complete DACA guaranteed. Next budget $5B? Eliminate the cap on SS and raise the tax rate on the top 5%. This may work well.

  10. He is just trying to deflect blame for the shutdown onto the dems. “See, look how reasonable i am, and those nasty dems just hate this country”. It doesn’t matter what he says today, what matters is, will he sign it when it shows up on his desk. or worse, will he have mcturtle block it from ever getting there. Absolutely no faith that this worm will ever do what is best for the country.

    No wall. Period.

The CPUSEC (Current President of the US Electoral College) can’t leave office soon enough – preferably soonest.

It would be a huge mistake to give Trump even a dime for his 2000 mile personal monument. Once we agree to cutting a check once, then we would be forced to continue doing so. Proving that Trump can hold the entire government and its employees hostage would set a dangerous precedent for future terrorism. Trump promised over and over and over again that Mexico would pay for his wall. Most of us knew he was lying then but a large percentage of his cult followers believed him. We should continue to remind them that Mexico is going to pay for the wall and refuse to give a penny of US tax dollars for it. Right now, Trump is asking for $5B, but the estimated cost of the wall is $70B. Once we agree to be on the hook for the first $5B, we will be expected to cough up the rest over time. Plus, once built, the wall will require constant maintenance and man power that will cost far more over a long period of time. We should never negotiate with hostage takers and terrorists…
