Love Me Some Invisible Hand of the Market Forces

I have a soft place in my heart for the Girl Scouts.  I also like their cookies.

And their ingenuity.

On Monday, Danielle Lei and her mother set up shop outside the Green Cross store with the cookies. With the store’s blessing, Lei sold 117 boxes in two hours.

Holli Bert, a spokeswoman for the Green Cross, said that after just 45 minutes, Lei had to call for backup cookies to replenish her stock.

Some real stuffy people think that’s inappropriate.  I think it’s cool.

People at liquor stores would not buy Girl Scout cookies.  Neither would Republicans.  They think Girl Scouts are little devil demons with sashes.

Thanks to Craig for the heads up.

  1. Two year old story but still good.

  2. I am a Girl Scout survivor. Both daughters. Cookies and band candy and band fruit sales. Been there done that. They are both grown, through college and working. My work is done!

  3. That’s reading the market and supplying a need. That girl’s smart enough to be a Democrat.

Sharing this post with the mother of my “almost” god-daughter (16 years old) and the Oma & mother of my two youngest god-daughters (9 & almost 7). All are Girl Scouts and I’m VERY proud of them. Buying cookies from two youngest every Sunday after church service. Almost god-daughter has out-grown cookies sellingbut I take her to movies whenever she wants to go. Love you girls! Don’t let the nuts get you down!

  5. If she or her mom starts her own business, I would like to be an investor.

  6. It’s a good reminder for a couple of reasons. I forgot it is cookie sales season so I put that on my “to do” list, and some enterprising scouts have more choces of pot dispensaries this year as they choose their sales sites.

  8. So Girl Scouts are little devil demons with sashes.

They say that as if it’s a bad thing.

I’m with you. Invest in this kid she’s gonna be a gazillionaire maybe before she can vote!

  10. An excellent example of business synergy. I hope more stores realize the mutual potential for sales .

@Micr-If she did that good in California, imagine how good she’d do in Washington or Colorado.I believe the investment advice tendered here is good. One stop shopping. Satisfy your cravings to get high and for thin mints, which I can devour(post haste) by the box, marijuana or no.
@ Montag- Synergy indeed, although I’m not sure who sees the most benefit.

  12. Sure hope there is an entrepreneurship badge she can earn for this marketing coup.

I have a granddaughter so she reminds me. I don’t care if they were outside a marijuana shop. She wasn’t inside, she’s only seven and the whole family including her mom were fighting over getting more GS cookies. My favorite is SAVANNA SMILES. Remember that movie?

Okay, America, make up your damned mind. Either you are for ambition, creativity, business savvy, and hard work or you’re not. This young girl and her mom are just brilliant. Good for them. Glad for them.

  15. Polite Kool Marxist says:

JAKvirginia, agreed! Can anyone explain why the snacilbupeR hate children and in particular the Girl Scouts?

I swear, if the snacilbupeR were not so anti-science, they’d keep all newborns in incubators until they turn of age to fight their proxy wars.

  16. “They think Girl Scouts are little devil demons with sashes.”

just waiting until they’re old enough to have an elective abortion, just because.

  17. “Can anyone explain why the snacilbupeR hate children and in particular the Girl Scouts?”

because Jamie Dimon isn’t getting a cut of the take.

    18
  18. The girls are so much better than the boys that I wish I could get my G’son into the Girl Scouts! He’s already in an all girl tumbling class!
