Hypocrisy Report

June 15, 2017 By: El Jefe Category: Goat Rodeos, Trump

You recall how the fashion police went after Michelle Obama every time she stepped out of the WH residence.  They hated her dresses, hated her in short sleeves, hated her in sleeveless gowns.  They hated her hair, so on and so forth.  The noise machine was continuous and loud.  So, I find it pretty ironic that zero has been said about how Melania Trump was dressed last night for the hospital visit with His Orangeness:

Here’s the close up:

Under normal circumstances, I would say that’s a beautiful dress on a beautiful woman.  But I can’t be that charitable.  After listening to 8 years of horrible insults and howling about Michelle’s appearance, I find it ironic that all we’ve heard is crickets over Melania’s attire.  Can you imagine the din if this was Michelle and she was showing this much thigh?  Especially on an official presidential visit?

Just sayin’

  1. I get the hypocrisy but I’m totally opposed to slut-shaming for the First Lady or any other woman.

Perhaps we should be grateful she dressed at all.

    2
  3. maryelle says:

Not appropriate, but also not important.

    3
  4. White legs. Move along.

    4
  5. Not nearly as much protest as if Trump showed bare midriff.

    5
  6. Im with Henry on this one. Im not a Melania fan but not criticism, even if it repeats a criticism leveled at Michelle Obama, would be seen as slut-shaming by the snacilbupeR, called out as such, and defended as such. No win scenario.

OTOH posting pre-election nude images without further commentary should be a-ok.

  7. Rick nailed it.

  8. What I think is funny is the last couple of photos I’ve seen of Trump & Melania, they’re holding hands! When they were overseas, she swatted his hands away on at least two different occasions (it was obvious enough that it made the news). I wonder who or what convinced her it would be great PR if she pretended to like her husband when they are out in public. Especially since Trump seemed to like walking ahead of her prior to that.

  9. slipstream says:

Lless: please don’t do that. I’m begging you.

    9
  10. It’s a nice dress. There should be some knock offs available at wally world in about 10 or 12 weeks. Actual production in China should begin in a week or two, add six weeks for transportation.
Have you noticed the rock on the left hand, I assume it the contract ring from when she merged into the Trump Group. Twelve carats, three million dollars, that’s equals about 55 years of the median family income in this country.
Does any one else think this is a bit ostentatious for hospital visit?

  11. Jane & PKM says:

All I know about women’s fashion I owe to my wife Jane and Mrs. Obama, two ladies who rock everything they wear. Dumbest ‘fashion’ statement (among many dumb statements)ever by the snacilbupeR was their heartless critique of Malia and Sasha Obama for wearing summer clothes in Italy in the summer. Silly President and First Lady; of course their daughters should have been wearing wool coats and hair shirts in that heat and humidity. Yeah. I know. Then the snacilbupeR could have criticized them for passing out from heat exhaustion.

As for how Messy dressed for a hospital visit. I dunno. Isn’t black for funerals and maybe not the most cheerful attire for a hospital “hope you have a quick recovery” visit. Or, why not take the worried family a lovely brochure display of coffins from your local undertaker to raise their hopes.

However, El Jefe, maybe you are being a little hyper critical of Messy. “showing this much thigh?” Unless I slept through anatomy class (always a possibility) her hemline was at her knees thus exposing her calves, not thighs.

    11
  12. Jane & PKM says:

Cole, what you said. Plus, knowing Donnie, that’s probably a conflict diamond, phony, or stolen off a corpse. Or, all three.

    12
  13. Jane & PKM, I’d like to think that’s a strip of red fabric on the skirt, but it does look like a slit well up the thigh. Strikes me as pretty tacky, especially for a hospital visit, and especially for a First Lady, but I’m flashing on the scene in “Gone With the Wind” when Scarlett has been caught kissing Ashley, and Rhett makes her wear a bright red dress to the party she’d rather skip. Maybe Melania was under orders to make Donnie look macho by posing– no, showing herself– as his sexy hand-holding wife….

I’d feel sorry for her, but although she didn’t choose to be First Lady, she did choose Donnie.

    13
  14. Larry from Colorado says:

The slit is so Hair Drumpf can grab her ***** easier?

    14
  15. Tilphousia says:

Couldn’t care how Melanie Trump dresses. She will never have the class that Michele Obama has.

    15
  16. Sam in St Paul says:

From Ivanka’s “First Lady of the Evening” collection.

    16
  17. BarbinDC says:

Michelle Obama was the best educated First Lady–since Hillary Clinton. Let us not look too closely at Melania’s iffy academic background, thank you very much. And, like Hillary, Michelle had a real professional career and was the main bread-winner until her husband hit the White House.

She was also the fittest one yet. So, what did she get criticized for? Her clothes and her exercise regimen. Oh, and her hair. Remember all the angst about Hillary’s changing hair styles?

I’ve grown immune to the RW hypocrisy. May they all rot in Hell.

I simply cannot WAIT for her book to come out.

    17
  18. Lunargent says:

Not a great dress, but not terrible, either. And I won’t fault Melania, since she probably made this visit much more willingly than Donnie did. When she visited the children’s hospitals overseas, she was very charming, and engaged with the kids. When not shackled to El Dumpo, she displays definite signs of humanity. I think that if she remains a public figure after her 2nd marriage, she might actually be able to make some kind of contribution to society.

My issue with the Trump hospital visit; he didn’t even see Scalise, who was still either in surgery or recovery, but did a photo op with medical staff. Still okay. But what about the 2 (African American, 1 female) cops who saved everyone’s lives, and were also injured and hospitalized? What about the congressional aide who was also shot?

Trump was very solicitous of his Party Whip. But if he even mentioned anyone else, I missed it.

    18
  19. Not surprised that Scalise was not receiving company at the hospital. I give his medical people props for that. I bet Donnie did not even telephone to inquire if Scalise was able to see visitors. He just motorcaded out to WHC with his entourage for a photo op riding the coat-tails of horror. As for the missus, yes that is a red lining but there is a slit and it stopped at mid-thigh. He wanted to parade his arm candy, even in a hospital and as I said on the coat-tails of horror. He is simply his own worst enemy. Witch hunt? Really? Well, if so he has tied his ownself to the stake lit the match.

    19
  20. Well Melania, can you tell us what was it that first attracted you to billionaire Donald Trump?

I wish Scalese a full recovery. But he has gold-plated health bennies that we the tax payers fund.

    20
  21. glf: Yes, I’ve noticed the recent pics of them holding hands. Or is it Donald grabbing her hand and not letting her wriggle free?

  22. treehugger says:

When I read this posting, I thought it was more about the hypocrisy of the FLOTUS fashion critics than of Melania in particular. It’s not what I would have chosen to wear to make a somber hospital visit, but whatever. People these days wear everything everywhere and show lots of everything everywhere. I’m not a fan. But speaking of FLOTUS fashion critics, the critics spent over a decade sniping about Hillary’s clothes, her hair, her everything else. They’ve also criticized a lot of other first ladies on their looks, their clothes, etc. These are people with nothing better to do. Melania made her choice to marry Cheeto and have his kid and her past is what it is. Personally, it’d be gratifying to see her dump him, but she’s on a gravy train, so it’s not likely. I would like nothing better than to see this whole family go down into obscurity.

    22
  23. AliceBeth says:

Well, it is not what I have worn to visit a hospital, but at least it is not an off shoulder evening dress, there are no sequins (or crystals of diamonds). She often dresses fancier than everyone else.

In the big picture however, it is not wildly inappropriate. Did you expect her to show good judgement, look who she married???

    23
  24. Fashion is my profession. And while I agree with treehugger on the purpose of this post, I have a problem with the choice the first lady made.
We have no hard and fast fashion rules anymore. Some of that is good, but it often seeps over into encouraging inappropriate dress. This dress is well designed and looks good on her, but it also invites inappropriate reactions. I have often advised my students when choosing “professional” dress to avoid any showing of cleavage. My comment: I’m a girl, but if I see cleavage I’m gonna look! Same here with showing a lot of leg. (And that dress would be almost impossible to sit down in and not display what it shouldn’t!) It shows to me a certain disrespect for the situation. I agree with some here who have said it’s not the worst she could have worn, but I think we should hold our leaders to a higher standard. Melania has some well designed garments and she looks good in them. She could be a role model for us, but she mostly is just a model.
And as to when the knockoff could appear…in today’s world it could be there in a couple of weeks!

    24
  25. That Other Jean says:

She wears it well, but it doesn’t seem to me that she should be wearing that particular dress as First Lady to visit the hospital in which some of her husband’s colleagues (insofar as he has them) are recovering from gunshot wounds. That’s quite a slit in that skirt.

    25
  26. The cop who personally saved misogynistic, homophobic, racist Scalise’s hairy ass was a Black, Lesbian Woman. I hope he gets well and chokes on that bit of knowledge.

    26
  27. Okay, I agree that maybe we shouldn’t pick on family, but with this particular family, I just can’t help myself. I keep saying that this woman is not my First Lady. She’s neither first nor a lady, so the term is inappropriate. Sorry, but I prefer to think of her as the Slovenian slut, and she frequently dresses that way. Lord willing, they’ll both be out of the People’s House by Christmas.

    27
  28. Marge Wood says:

My daddy was a preacher and Mother should have been. People had preacher faults for breakfast, lunch and dinner and at the club. Mother wouldn’t go to their club meetings.
. Mother was paranoid about talking to almost anyone about almost anything. I don’t think belly buttons or thighs should be shown off but lots of times I don’t know where to look. Even if it were for political reasons, I thought it was nice that the Trumps took flowers and made nice noises to a friend in the hospital. I know that Trump is all the things he is and he terrifies me but sometimes I just feel sorry for him and Melania. Melania and Ivanka are beautiful women. I wish they could all go live in south Florida and just stay there, sans pay checks from us. Trump needs serious medical treatment.
Okay I’ll get off my soapbox.
