Holy Crap.

Trump first announced that Mattis is  retiring in February through a damn tweet. Too late – Mattis sends a letter and quits.  You can read the letter here.

From his resignation letter:

“My views on treating allies with respect.. are strongly held…Because you have the right to a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on theses and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position.”

Trump, you have no Secretary of State, no Attorney General, no Chief of Staff, no Secretary Defense, no border wall, and you probably don’t have a winkie. All you have left is the little Nazi-guy with the spray on hair.

  1. Grandma Ada says:

Good for Gen. Mattis. Has Trump flown off to Florida on his government jet to be guarded two weeks by his government workers? Maybe his Mar-a-Lago cabinet will help him figure this mess out – he certainly has no one left in DC to help!

  2. Grandma Ada says:

Good for Gen. Mattis! Trump and his bigly brain can stew in Florida over his actions.

    2
  3. Given the damage his appointees have done at other departments and now he feels he can appoint anyone who will say yes, the thought of one of The Donald’s ideological zombies directing the military is scary as Hell!

    3
  4. ” All you have left is the little Nazi-guy with the spray on hair.”
Plus at least 2 supreme court justices and god knows how many federalist society puppets to protect him from any judicial restraint.

Just imagine what would have happened if any of Manford’s or cohan’s cases came before one of these appointees rated “unqualified” by the Bar association and yet still railroaded into their seat with the exclusive jobs of protecting demented donnie and the koch brothers agenda.

  5. slipstream says:

    Winning. So much winning.

    5
  6. “Because you have the right to a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours…”

Am I reading this correctly? Did Mattis just say Trump deserves a much stupider person as his Secretary of Defense?

    6
  7. I cannot blame Mattis for tiring of banging his head against the orange rock. All I want for Xmas is a prez that does not commit treason in between golf games……….sigh.

    7
  8. Like you, montag, I find General Mattis’ exit frightening.
The level of intelligence and common sense has just dropped to the bottom of the barrel. With his recent move, pulling troops out of Syria, bound to cause catastrophic consequences, the dominos will start to fall as Dump grows increasingly empowered.

    8
  9. “Only the best people” , he said.

Well, the ‘best’ people can’t stand him. And they are better them him.
And he knows it. And instead of valuing their expertise, he belittles them and gets rid of them.

    9
  10. Buttermilk Sky says:

Look out, District of Columbia…here comes the tanks-and-missiles parade, a/k/a the Trump Trail of Testosterone.

BTW, the Kurds we are betraying and abandoning (again) say they will release more than a thousand captured ISIS fighters in Syria. Should be interesting.

    10
  11. The real purpose of Trump’s moves is making sure he won’t have to endanger himself visiting the troops in a combat zone.

    11
  12. This vile RAT45 sonofabitch is way inside the impeachment zone now. His unthinking actions are placing our nation into great peril.
When even the clearly very patient Gen Maddog Mattis writes a scathing letter of rebuttal and resignation all but calling Donnei Dumbfock an immediate threat to this nation (read between the lines), we are all entering a period of great danger.
The economic indicators are tanking, the Dow is now under where it was when Obama left office, all the Obama carrythrough momentum that allowed SOBOTUS to crow about “his” magnificent economy is gone, wiped out.
The price of crude oil is sinking fast, driven in part by our enemies, this alone could very well lead to another major meltdown as in 1985, particularly in Texas.
Our military worldwide now have bigger targets on their backs with a known incompetent as their ‘CiC’.
Even RAT45 himself may begin to realize that he is backing himself into both domestic and foreign corners from which he cannot escape from. A cornered wild animal (poisonous snake in this case) can be even more unpredictable and dangerous than is ‘normal’, to everyone else.
There are still many government positions unfilled, let alone the turmoil in the WH, weakening the actual fabric of the US across the board.

Just imagine the spin we will be hearing from the propagandists of the WH, Kellyanne and Sarah, et al., and Fox and the RW radio nutcases about all of this stuff.

At the end of each week do y’all find yourselves thinking that it can’t possibly get much worse? And then the very next week it does.
We are entering a very dangerous period. When any world actor who sees a now tempting opening to tweak the US’ tail can do it, with little fear of a coherent response.

    12
  13. Did I miss something? Isn’t Pompeo still Sec’y of State?

    13
  14. I heard about this last night on my way home from a delicious dinner out and all I could do was sigh. Mad Dog had done all he could, realized it, and departed on his own terms. Tom Cotton of Arkansas as SecDef? Nope. He blew his chances when he showed himself a Traitor during the Obama administration by doing what Trump does, opening mouth before throwing in the clutch. Frankly, I don’t know who the blazes would want that job in this administration and no, hauling Dick Cheney back in is not workable. The Senate is beginning to show signs of a vertebra. This is an excellent point wherein a deputization visits tRump and tells him, Game Over. Good-bye. Resign or we will impeach you and convict you.

Those are tRump’s choices and for him, none of them are good. If he resigns the Southern District of New York lawyers will came at him in battalions. If he fails via impeachment, he is no longer President, and its the same deal – SDNY. Or he could always get aboard his own damn jet, fly off somewhere and then submit his resignation. He could never return to this country. Now that last thing is something to enjoy!

    14
  15. Thoughts and prayers to Rumpy. May the new house in 2019 make his and his minions’ lives a living hell.

    15
  16. And my Mattis join the Mueller choir.

    16
  17. Word “my” should be “may”. Need more coffee.

    17
  18. Ever since the corpulent crook descended that escalator, we’ve been waiting for either the “tipping point” of Donnie’s shenanigans scratching his Teflon or for the Cons in Congress to grow a spine and actually perform their checks & balances role.

Will it be Donnie & Putin, Erdogan or Xi Jinping? Anyone else hearing Liza Minelli …

    18
  19. It’s not hard to see it as the Cuban Missile Crisis, and Pearl Harbor combined of this time in history. It’s chaos personified by a mentally out of control, ignorant man who won the election illegally. Never has the US been in so much danger and our Congress just silently sits on its hands. Rump is a danger to this country and our planet like no other head of State anywhere since Hitler.

How much worse will it get?

    19
  20. Papa, thinking it won’t become as bad as being on the receiving end August 6 and 9, 1945. We’ve had presidential assassinations which I don’t recommend, but this could cause our first coup at which point we officially become a banana republic. Thank Donnie. And thanks to Old Scratch McConnell, Lyin’ Ryan and all the spineless snacilbupeR who enabled & worshipped at the hooves of the glowing jackass.

  21. Buttermilk Sky says:

The last thing we need is more bad news, but Justice Ginsburg had a cancerous growth removed from her lung today. Please send thoughts, prayers, healing strength and whatever else you have in her direction.

    21
  22. georgie-porgie says:

Oh no! The sky is falling, the sky is falling! Unfortunately this time it’s true. Like everyone above, I kept hoping it wouldn’t get any worse – then it did. So sorry to hear about RBG, bless her heart. During the campaign, psychiatrists and psychologists were diagnosing Donnie as having mental problems. Diagnostic guidelines describing Malignant Narcissism read like they were written to describe The Donald.
Steve Bannon flat out told us what they were going to do on 2/23/17 when he spoke at CPAC – their mission was to “deconstruct the administrative state”, which they’ve done, in spades. OK, mission accomplished, now can they all just pack up and go home? We will be unable to bring back all the knowledge, experience and expertise that left DC when the Trumpsters got started deconstructing our federal government.
Then we find out about all the back channels to Russia – Russia!!!! This new one about Treasury Dept. people sending information on US citizens (who the Kremlin considered enemies, on unsecured phones) to Russians because they asked for it, is mind blowing. This article by 2 prize-winning journalists is long, but well worth the time.

Hold on to your hats, people, we’re probably in for a very bumpy ride. Sorry this was so long…

  23. @ Jane & PKM #20,

IDK, but Rump reminds me of this dictator who was taken out by a popular uprising in 1989.

  24. This is sad. We need war and we need the entire MIC to competently inflict our will upon the peoples of the world. Especially brown people in faraway lands. Plus,we need the sons and daughters of the deplorables to die for our agenda.

I’m willing to forgive Trump if he offers a couple of pieces of candy to Michelle Obama.

    24
  25. Endless War is now good. Illegal occupation of countries beyond our border is now a good thing. War is peace and ignorance is strength.

Out hatred of Trump will doom us as we sell our souls to the MIC.

    25
  26. Juanita Jean, You’re a dandy! Sheila Kennedy even quoted you today. If this whole pitiful situation weren’t so…well…pitiful, we could all be laughing our heads off. I sure as hell hope that this will all be over soon. With his ballooning “236 pounds” (who is he kidding?), he’s likely to suffer a heart attack or a stroke. It’s more likely 326 pounds or even 632 pounds. Jus’ sayin’. Merry Chrisum, y’all!
