Halledamnlujah!

December 16, 2017 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

We met our goal three days before deadline and Glen Maxey is in Isla Mujeres celebrating.  For the first time ever, Texas Democrats are sending ballot by mail applications to every known Democrat over the age of 65.  Thanks to you, we were able to cover the entire state.  For the first time ever.

Ballots by mail are good for one full year, so we’ve got a handle on this.

The applications are pre-populated and marked for a Democratic primary ballot so Republicans won’t use them in case they get their grubby hands on them.  They are also coded, so we will know who sent their’s back and who hasn’t yet.

I am leaving the donate button up in case somebody gets extra special nice with a cherry on top and wants to donate to help Hazel Lundy’s phone banking team start calling in late January to remind people to fill out the application and mail it back.  Hazel hires Democrats who need some extra work and trains them to be phone bankers. She pays them $10 an hour plus a hot meal to make calls from her home.

I will also be creating online phone banking for people outside of Texas who want to help make calls.

The last of the Thank You postcards go out tonight.  See, I got it done by Christmas this time!  There were 165 of them and I did them a dozen at a time, so if I missed you, let me know.

This right here is Bubba and Glen at the courthouse in Johnson City all decorated up for Christmas last weekend.  The courthouse is decorated, not Don and Glen.  We’ve tried as hard as we can, but they don’t look any better with decorations.

And this is the last I heard from Glen —

I’m sure there’s a story but I don’t wanna know.  Seriously, Glen, shuddup.

Thank you again, Guys.

Be social and share!

  1. As an over 65 myself (yeah that grl is wishful thinking) I wonder if there’s an option for the lost/recycled/accidentally trashed ballots?

And good on you- now to get MORE democrats of ALL ages in TX.

  2. That is great news, JJ.

Don’t Mess With Texas…or the rest of us at The World’s Most Dangerous Beauty Salon!

  3. The courthouse was decorated and the guys were lit up.

Wow! I wasn’t expecting a handwritten thank you note — and I didn’t even cook dinner for you: mwah!

  7. Thanks to everyone! I’m over 65 but still mobile, so won’t do the mail-in. But I’m so glad to know that you guys have my back when I get to that physical stage. Thanks for the thank-you card!

  8. My post card arrived today. I am really happy to participate in projects like this. Thank you for making it so easy to help : )

  9. That Other Jean says:

Thank you for the postcard! I really wasn’t expecting that. I’m happy to help you turn Texas blue.

  10. I’m thinking, given the ongoing attempts by Russia and/or the Repugs to hack the voting machine software, that it wouldn’t hurt for all of us to vote by paper ballots.
Congratulations to the Juanita Jean Mean Machine for organizing this important contribution to voting rights for the senior block.

  11. I hope Texas turns as blue as a field of bluebonnets.

I once went to a festive day at my previous job (picture framing shop) as a Christmas tree. It got a bit tedious having to unplug and replug myself every time I moved to a different work station, but I was definitely festive.

As for Glen and Bubba, looks like they’re holding to the adage, “Never drink anything you can’t see through.” I think it’s followed by the adage, “You can’t fall off the floor.”

Got my postcard in the mail on Saturday! Awesome that we got all of Texas covered. Next step is to donate to Hazel’s phone banking right after the Holidays.j

  13. WA Skeptic says:

Got my card today! So glad I could help even a little bit.

    Today Texas, tomorrow the world!!!

PS: how about an address for the phone bank??

  14. How are these ballots protected? What if mine gets lost “accidentally” (by a Republican postal worker). The concept is great, but until there’s a guarantee all of the ballots are safe I’ll vote the old fashioned-way.

  15. Juanita Jean Herownself says:

Dearmaizie – there is a certain amount of trust. How do you know the electronic machine really counted your vote? I vote by mail because I have worked the entire process and I trust it. After you mail your ballot back in, you can call to see if they received it.

The ballots are opened and certified in groups of 25. An exact count of ballots is always kept. They are doubled and tripled checked. No ballot is ever in the care or custody of one person. There must be a Republican and a Democrat certifying, counting, and transporting together.

    15
  16. When it involves Republicans, “certain amount of trust,” heh, heh, good one.

As a skeptic, I feel the same way about the electronic machine.

I didn’t know you could verify receipt. That makes a big difference and I thank you for educating me on that. I knew there was a reason I liked this salon so much.

I haven’t received a card in the mail. I’ll call my local Dem office.

  17. Juanita Jean Herownself says:

Dearmazie – you won’t get an application card until after the first of the year in Texas. They’re good for one year.

    17
  18. Thanks so much! Have a wonderful Christmas.
