Governor Abbott Is Trying to Shoot the Sheriff
Travis County (think Austin) Sheriff is a fine woman named Sally Hernandez.
Sheriff Hernandez issued a state meant saying that the County of Travis has an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) policy.
“The purpose of this policy is to promote public safety through continued Travis County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) enforcement of all Texas criminal laws, to protect and serve all residents of Travis County regardless of their immigration status, and to ensure the continued participation of victims and witnesses regardless of their immigration status.”
Governor Greg Abbott is threatening her. Yes, the duly elected Sheriff. He is threatening her because she believes that protecting the citizens in Travis County is more important than rounding up undocumented workers. In fact, she campaigned on that and won.
Abbott wrote a strongly-worded letter.
In the letter, Abbott also made clear that he intends to make an example out of Hernandez during the 85th Legislative Session that started earlier this month. Abbott is set to lay out his priorities in his State of the State address, which is scheduled for Jan. 31.
He’s gonna make an example of her. Honey, she already is an example of what strong women with a solid education can accomplish. I’m placing my bet that she’s going to make and example of lily-livered whiny baby Abbott.
Abbott better bring more than Dan Patrick and the crappiest lawyers in the state working for Ken Paxton to mess with this woman.

1What is the most appropriate way to contact our s**t stain of a governor? It would be nice to start a campaign supporting anyone the republicans are against.
2As soon as I saw Sheriff Hernandez, I immediately thought of Helen Thomas. Similar look.
3I hope Sheriff Hernandez kicks butt (A-butt, in particular) and takes names in their confrontation.

7Apparently, your governor hasn’t much to do. It must be wonderful to live in a perfect state where everyone is healthy, wealthy, and… um… wise(?) and where the governor has nothing better to do than nitpick on someone actually doing their job. Maybe what he needs is HoneyDo list?
8JAK, I think you missed the part where Abbutt wants everybody rounding up undocumented workers. That’s our biggest problem, isn’t it? Isn’t that why Trump’s wall is so important?
9djw: But that proves my point. YOU are supposed to “round ’em up”? Lessee here. Undocumented workers work for less money which saves their employers big bucks (while breaking the law, too). The workers spend that money on food, clothes, rent, etc. which the state benefits from in sales and property taxes. But somehow, it’s the undocumented workers who are the difficulty?
Well, here’s a wild idea. Give them a path to citizenship and then they can be taxed for income too like everyone else. But, no. I just have to accept that there are people who put other people in bad situations while they paint themselves as good.

12Sheriff Hernandez looks like she is a no-nonsense LEO who probably came up through the ranks.
13I’ll bet she knows that most excellent perp-handling move of a swift knee, foot or nightstick to the perp’s ‘nads to force compliance with an extremely nasty, non-compliant offender. Would just luv to see her execute that move on the teenytiny ‘nads of Abutt, Patrick and Paxton (or Trumpov should he ever visit Travis Co).
Any chance Paxton will get detained for his little financial felonies?
Sally Hernandez is cute as a button and carries a gun in her little purse. Yes, she has a lot of experience. But Greg Abbott is now pretending to be Trump and has decided it’s okay to be mean, esp. to women. I couldn’t believe it when I saw a big old smear article of Abbott on the front page of the STATESMAN. That’s a real good way to help sheriffs, isn’t it, about what turrible policies the new sheriff lady has announced and how will they pay the bills if she has her way. He’s also after the lady sheriff in Dallas who endorsed Sally. He’s busy writing a new law that will let him fire, FIRE, duly elected folks if they won’t lick his boots. Y’all stick up for Sally.
14Abbott definitely is handicapped – morally and emotionally.
15Them thar illegal’s pay SS and Medicare taxes into the system but cannot collect a penny. One could argue they pay their fair share of taxes that the wealthy won’t.
