Get ready for Donald Trump to gut punch another Gold Star Father.
The father of a Navy Seal killed in a raid in Yemen last month has demanded an investigation into the planning and timing of what he called a “stupid mission”.
If my memory serves me correctly (I occasionally do have fake memory), at the Republican National Convention last year a heartbroken mother said that Hillary Clinton killed her son in Benghazi. None of us said anything about her except that she had our deepest sympathies for the loss of her son, who was a civilian working in Benghazi.
At the Democratic convention, Gold Star father Khizr Khan asked Donald Tump to recognize the importance of Muslim Americans to our country. He and his wife were viciously attacked by Trump.
Get ready for the same thing to happen to Bill Owens, the father of the SEAL killed in the Yemen attack, even though the attack is beginning to look like a testosterone party for Bannon, Kushner, and General Mathis. Donald Trump was gleefully twittering during the attack.
I admire Bill Owen for having the courage to speak up after what happened to the Khans.
God bless those parents and may they push their cause for an investigation which should show exactly what they know: a senseless, ill-thought-out raid which Trump and his minions wanted to show how strong he is. And no matter how Spicer tries to spin it, it was a humiliating failure for Der Fuhrer.

2A grieving parent is amongst a President’s worst nightmares.
President Lincoln wrote the Bixby letter, IICR, with his own hand, not by one of the spinmeisters on the Oval Office staff. If you are a POTUS, any of them, before 1/20 you better f’ing well know how you’re gonna handle this because it WILL happen on your watch. Even more so if you are a war-loving MF looking for your manhood.
3Now that Trump wants to increase the military, perhaps those two sons of his will take the opportunity to join to make up for his five deferments. Perhaps Uday and
4Qusay will stop traveling the world opening golf courses.
Owen isn’t a Muslim, so he’ll be safe from attack by Trump. Ignored maybe, but not attacked.

President Lincoln wrote this letter expressing condolences to Mrs. Bixby, a widow who it was believed had lost five sons in the Civil War.
After Lincoln wrote this letter it was later learned that only two of Mrs. Bixby’s five sons had actually died in battle. In fact, one of her sons had deserted the army, one was honorably discharged and it is unclear what happened to the other son.
Mrs. Bixby was believed to be a Confederate sympathizer and destroyed the original letter.

I’m sorry I had not read more about the Bixby letter in more recent times. I was asked to read and understand the Bixby Letter in AFROTC in 1971. Circumstances required Col Coble, our Aerospace Science department head and active USAF officer, to write several such letters to grieving mothers in WW2. He impressed upon his wannabes this letter was something you would do once for a family, that it be perfect in content and form, and that failure to perfect was not an option. While the USAF and I never agreed on a contract, I used Col Coble’s lessons in empathy a couple of times as a peace officer delivering death messages to citizens. I suspect for an O-3 or an O-4 writing such messages NEVER ever gets “easy”. And frankly having personally written such letters should be part of the “other requirements” of POTUS and SecDef and members of Congress. Their official actions have consequences in the residences on Main Street in every city of America.
