George P. Bush’s House Problem

February 18, 2018 By: El Jefe Category: Bush

I don’t think that George P. Bush, being a Bush, actually needs money, so the scheme to buy his house in Austin is puzzling.  Get a load of this deal – Bush wanted a house in Austin after he was elected Land Commissioner.  So, he gets Brandon Steele, who also happens to employ Amanda Bush, GP’s wife, had his east Texas bank to loan GP $850,000 to buy said house.  But that’s not all.  The bank loaned the money not to GP, but to a Bush trust to conceal his ownership.  AND, GP didn’t disclose the home or the loan on his financial disclosure required by law.

Ethics experts say that the scheme may be technically legal, but certainly violates the spirit of Texas’ ethics law, but he’s a Bush – what would you expect?

  1. The likelihood of a repugnantcan even considering the concept of ethics with regards to their own behavior is some seriously funny stuff. Even better than the Church Lady gag. What a great way to start a Sunday morning. Thanks!

Didn’t the little weasel try to sell himself as a bonafide 20 year service retired Navy vet.

In fact he had only 10 years in and his campaign has turned the word “retire” into a semantic footbll.

  3. (sigh)

    Bush ethics: an oxymoron.

What is it with these people???

  4. George Prescott has had in the not too distant past problems with right and wrong. Seems as if this is something he has decided he can’t grow out of.

  5. Everythings bigger in Texas, even the “…loophole you can drive a Texas-sized pickup through.”

  6. Speaking of houses, I browsed through the WashPost’s article on the most expensive houses sold in the DC area in 2017 to see if they included ours. They didn’t. But they include this:

“$12.6 million (list price $12.6 million)

    Rock Creek Dr. NW, Washington

    Bedrooms/bathrooms: 9/14
    Approximate square footage: 15,902
    Lot size: 0.77 acre
Listing agent: Nelson Marban, Washington Fine Properties

The Massachusetts Avenue Heights mansion with its stone and stucco exterior was built in 2001. The home has a 60-foot entrance hall, eight fireplaces, an elevator, an indoor pool, sauna, wine cellar, home theater and four-car garage. The gated property overlooks Rock Creek Park. This is one of four homes owned by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. He also owns a Bel Air estate ($26.5 million), Southhampton house ($13.78 million) and an Upper East Side duplex co-op ($10.5 million).”

So that’s four houses with a combined value of $63.4 million. I can see where that guy might know something about handling money, at least so a lot of it sticks to his fingers. But claiming that appointing him is part of “draining the swamp” of corruption and big spenders in Washington, not so much.

We paid $50K for our townhouse in 1983, and we don’t own any other houses. Somehow we manage.

Good on you, Rhea. I will be 65 in a week or two and I have never owned a home or a new vehicle. I manage as well.

I think George P went a bit overboard but I can see not wanting the world to know where he lived. A local judge was going home one night here in Austin. She lives in a gated community. She was shot as she entered her home. Of course there’s all the benefits and Trump-type smarts involved in all of GP’s accountant’s work…
and now for my closing remark, BAN ASSAULT WEAPONS. What’s the best way to do that? Promise not to vote for people who get $$ from NRA? Before this ongoing rage about mass shootings, my thing was NO NUCLEAR WAR. Well, no war, but nuclear war just leaves everything melted into a huge field of glass. Is that gonna be our gift to the future? Nuclear weapons? Assault weapon killings?
