Fun With Guns: Good Training, Yeah, That’s The Ticket Edition

August 31, 2016 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

I have decided that the most unsafe place in the country is shooting ranges, especially in the south where safety is not a, well, you know, top priority.

According to Fort Myers Police, an accidental shooting took place at Shoot Straight, located on Colonial Boulevard near the Edison Mall.

Police say the victim, a man, was shot by a family member.

The victim is said to have non-life threatening injuries, and was taken to Lee Memorial for treatment.

Police said no criminal charges have been filed.

The owner of Shoot Straight wouldn’t comment.

Well hell, would you?  I’m pretty sure that the Fort Meyers Bar Association is holding their annual “Sue Somebody!” picnic in this guy’s hospital room.

Be social and share!

Was it one of the target ranges with a bar attached?

On a side note – where was the range safety officer?

  2. This is in FL you know, But could be TX. or AZ.
    Ready ,Fire , Aim.

  3. These gun incidents would make a great advertising campaign for so many other businesses, for instance:

Take your family bowling tonight! After the game, go home, not to the hospital!

  4. OK. I am old but now I am officially cranky. All these damn accidental discharges no matter where that involve someone getting shot to anny degree only tells me that the victim was indeed the intended target.

  5. “Shoot Straight uses live targets” is a great ad or how about “Bring a friend, be a live target” or “Bring an enemy, take ’em down”.

I agree with Maggie … old, cranky and my back hurts this morning!!
So, if the accidental discharge actually kills someone, does the perp actually get charged with murder or a slap on the wrist because it was “accidental” even though the perp hated the victim but that wasn’t known until the family started talking!!
Are ALL of these “accidental discharges” really just “accidental?” Someone should look into that because it seems a lot of idiots are truly getting away with murder!!

  7. Somebody who knows guns, maybe Jim Wright at Stonekettle Station, said that there is no such thing as an “accidental” discharge of a firearm. There is criminal discharge, there is careless discharge, and there is… oops, I’ve forgotten the third one. Stupid, maybe. Anyway, anybody responsible for a criminal, careless, or whatever-it-is discharge should not be allowed to have weapons.

Well, c’mon… who are you going to shoot? A total stranger? That would be rude. Keep it in the family…
“Now, don’t do that or you could shoot somebody.” “Ya mean like this?”

    BLAM!

    Siiiiiiiigh.

  9. A popular song in the ’40s was “I Didn’t Know the Gun Was Loaded.”

“I didn’t know the gun was loaded, and I’m so sorry, my friend. I didn’t know the gun was loaded, and I’ll never, never do it again.”

    9
  10. “I Didn’t Know the Gun Was Loaded.”

Oldayfly, was the followup song titled, “I Wish I’d Known How Stupid You Were, My Friend?”

Just had a shot of Tordol in my butt an hour ago, Marcia in Colo. Administered by a RN trained to handle weapons od mass relief (when it works). No one died or was even injured in today’s proceedings. Only wish the damn stuff could erase 40 years worth on unhappy, ne painful memories of back pain gone by.

On a cautious note, a neighbor dropped by one day when I was in a blue funk caused by pinched sciatic nerves. He asked if he could help and I joki, gly suggested he get my .22 and put me outof misery. He left and about half hour later two deputies walked into the house unbidden and said they had word of a possible suicide.

Lesson learned. They confiscated my .22 for 2 weeks before I was able to get it back. I guess some neighbors have less sense of humor than I’m used to.

I didn’t know that Dick Cheney was running a shooting range.

I live in embarrassingly, scarlet red NW by gawd iowa, JakVirginia. Most everyone around is a wingnut-a;though there are ever so many that practice what the “good book” preaches.

My eldest brother lives in Virginia Beach and is an ordained minister who has had end-times leanings. Sheesh!. 🙂

  15. I’ve been to Fort Meyers many times over the years, for Spring Training with the Red Sox. It is exactly the sort of Florida town where you’d expect something like this to happen. I know the street named, and the Edison Mall, but don’t recall seeing the place.

Ok, just looked it up. The closest bar is a Hooters just down the street about .25 mile.

Went there once–strangest thing we saw was guys getting take-out. Trust me, the food is not the main attraction at Hooters.

Ok, ok. I’m also old, cranky, and my arthritis is acting up so I really don’t have a great deal of patience with morons who ready! Aim! Fire! Oops! But just a quick little question: just WHERE was the so called victim shot? If the remaining members of the family are lucky, he has been removed from the gene pool. The whole family sounds as though they haven’t even made it to the shallow end. Ditto the owner of the range.

The full name of the joint is the ‘Shoot Straight Bar & Drill’, their motto is “Kick ‘Em Back, Drill ‘Em Through, We’ll Tag ‘n Bag ‘Em for You”. ;]

  18. WTF? I don’t understand those people. Basic damn firearms safety Is Not Complicated! Friggin’ wingnuts really aren’t very smart.

  19. The family that slays together, stays together.

    Well, some of them anyway.
