Da Pope.

Yeah, he said that and I suspect it goes for Baptists and Methodists, too.

“There are those who say ‘I am very Catholic, I always go to Mass, I belong to this and that association’,” the head of the 1.2 billion-member Roman Catholic Church said, according to a Vatican Radio transcript.

He said that some of these people should also say “‘my life is not Christian, I don’t pay my employees proper salaries, I exploit people, I do dirty business, I launder money, (I lead) a double life’.”

Honey, that ain’t just good, that’s chicken-fried good!

Are Newt Gingrich, John Boehner, Chris Christie, Clarence Thomas, and Paul Ryan paying attention?

Do you want to know who the hypocrite Catholics are?  Well, they’ll tell you who they are by condemning this statement.

I wonder if it’s better to be a agnostic than a hypocritical atheist?

  1. Wow! I knew this guy was going to be way different when I found out that in his very young years he worked as a bouncer at a club located I think in Big B.A. And that he likes to do a mean air tango just to loosen up. And yes, I know dozens of “very Catholic” folks who would profit in every way by taking this advice!

@uanita Jean Herownself #none-OP-Even though one of my personal heroes(Charles Darwin)described himself as an agnostic. I’ve always considered that a namby-pamby CS(caca de pollo)stance. Nut- up or shut-up. Atheist at least makes ones stance known in no uncertain terms. One might be wrong( though it seems not) but, at least, you’ve made a statement. instead of that weaselly unknown-and- unknowable.

Former Catholic here! Oh, yeah. This will ruffle some feathers in the flock! But he is so right. Too many high-and-mighties in all religions. The RCC is a house that needs some deeeeep cleaning.

  4. So, in this context, is a hypocritical atheist someone who claims not to believe in gods, but secretly sneaks away to church and/or sacrifices chickens in a blood rite?

Atheism doesn’t lend itself to hypocrisy the way religions do. There aren’t Ten Commandments to work with.

  5. Religion is Fake Reality.
    Religious Education is Hypocrisy Training.
    Atheism is the Best Guess.
    They’re all Guesses.

Yet, unless I overestimate his papal powers, Frank could afford to let loose of a few Vatican shekels to help feed those starving in the Middle East and areas of Africa without melting down the papal gold or selling off any artwork.

Much the same way Mark Zuckerberg could pay some taxes at the very least. Or, “bless her heart” his wife Priscilla Chan could maintain her dream of eradicating childhood diseases by the year 2050, and she could reach into her pocket TODAY to do something about the water in Flint, MI.

Their collective what “WE” should do, while they sit on more than half the world’s fortunes smacks of hubris and hypocrisy.

  7. Had it up to here with KKKristians attacking anyone different than themselves. The Trump overturn of the trans sexual bathroom guidelines for schoolkids is a huge case in point.
So now kids who are different will be forced to conform to KKKristian rules for living and many more will commit suicide due to lack of support and understanding. The crackdown on freedom has begun in earnest.

  8. Francis is a good pope as popes go, certainly better than the aging Hitler Youth who preceded him. But he’s still rigidly opposed to birth control and to having women in any position of power in the RC church.

Still, it’s refreshing when he says things that show he has some degree of decency.

  9. Francis has always been my favorite Pope (granted, it’s a low bar). We happened to be in Rome the day he was elected, so I feel some ownership! Happy that he’s turned out to be relatively liberal, as Popes go.

  10. I was enthused about Francisco till he proved to be a lot of sound bites. Jane &PKM, Rhea, etc., note some points. He continues to protect pedophile priests. The RCC hierarchy in the Vatican is probably rottener than the snacilbupeR. The RCC’s had a couple millenia to perfect it.

Regarding atheism, I’m not really sure what I am. I got sick of church, religion, massive hypocrisy, politician preachers, etc. Screw it all. Now I don’t go to any and I feel much saner. I believe there is a force for good in the world, perhaps the common goodwill of humanity. Atheist? Agnostic? I don’t know or care for myself or anyone else. It’s not my business.

Jane & PKM/Rhea: Just like some people in this country think the Prez is like a king, too many think the Pope is all powerful, too. I read a book recently by an author who has been pealing back the veil over the Vatican. The finances of the church are a mess. Independent, respected accounting firms have been brought in to make sense if it all but have been stone-walled by a powerful Vatican bureaucracy. Private accounts everywhere, gross misuse of Vatican credit cards… the list goes on and on. Once a year the RC has a special collection for the poor of the world. The accountants discovered most of it going to cover operating expenses of the Vatican. Investment accounts in the billions of euros mishandled and not getting top returns.

The Pope was not happy. Avoiding riling the bureaucracy, the Pope has been patient but I believe that patience has run out. Behind the scenes there have been changes but this is a problem ingrained in the Vatican bureaucracy. It will be dufficult to change. Religion… ain’t it fun!??

  12. My favorite Pope, but he said “atheist” like it was a bad thing.
