Curry Favor

Donald Trump is now saying that he never compared other counties to latrines.

And this weekend, two Southern Republican senators who were in the Trump meeting are reversing their position and now contending that Trump didn’t say it.

U.S. Sen. David Perdue, R-Ga., who was in that meeting with Trump, made a course correction. On Friday, the senator put out a joint statement with Senate colleague Tom Cotton, R-Ark. Both said they couldn’t remember the president comparing Third World nations to latrines.

Couldn’t remember?  Really?  Is your memory machine in need of tinkering?

I guess Perdue heard the snickering so he took a third position:

This morning [Sunday], Perdue said it never happened. “I’m telling you he did not use that word, George. And I’m telling you it’s a gross misrepresentation. How many times do you want me to say that?”

Well, maybe enough times to make it true?

Meanwhile, conservation radio talk host host Eric Erickson, tweeted.

Apparently, rightwing Republican Southern senators are no longer in the base.

  1. Unless I am mistaken there IS a difference between not saying something and a gross misrepresentation. Do you think? How do these people face themselves every day?

@Maymoon–there are lots of people who can shave without looking themselves in the eye. And there’s nothing like MONEY to soothe their consciences.

Is Lying a catching type disease? Looks like these guys caught it.

  3. Around Casa Micr, my little bride early on defined “lie” to our children as anything anyone said or did with the intent to deceive. In this matter, both “right-wing Republican Southern senators” lie.

  4. Off topic…I was delighted to learn this morning that Chris Christie has been replaced by a Democratic governor…Murphy.
    Sweet!

  5. I say, to get to the bottom of this, we bring back all of the people from the first meeting, including Trump. This time they have to listen to Barbra Streisand singing “The Way We Were (Memories)” until they crack:

Can it be that it was all so simple then
Or has time rewritten every line
If we had the chance to do it all again, tell me, would we, could we
Mem’ries light the corners of my mind
Misty water-colored mem’ries of the way we were

  6. Surely some of that super pac money that flows like flooded rivers to Rs could be used to buy a better toupee for Sinator (spelling on purpose) Perdue.

  7. I guess there may be some possibility that s**thouse was used, not s**thole.

That being said, the Republican party is (more and more) officially the party of amorality. We have known this for a long time, but day by day the lack of honesty is becoming ever more brazen.

In tjis case, bad hair is a way to imitate one’s “leader”. Both are balder under the rug.

  9. So now they can’t remember him saying it, but they were okay with it before? Is dementia contagious?

And is Eric Erickson really a conservation talk show host– I wish we had some of those– or has autocorrect struck again?

Here’s a good analysis of the whole mess by right-leaning but Trump-hating Jennifer Rubin: https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/right-turn/wp/2018/01/15/two-senators-do-backflips-to-protect-a-racist-president/

And Donnie keeps saying that he’s “the least racist person,” which proves to this atheist that there is no god, because if there were, that man should be a little pile of greasy ashes by now.

  10. Sen. Flake (R-AZ) is now comparing Donnie’s condemnation of the news media to Stalin’s, and calling the GOP his enablers.

Nice one, Jeff, but I guess you came to that conclusion _after_ you voted Donnie’s way on his kiss-the-rich tax bill, repeal the ACA, and every other damn thing that came down his pike.

  11. I’ve heard for a long time that there is a culture war, that the defenders of culture are the Rethugs. Really? They must have the strangest definition of culture in the universe.

    11
  12. Rhea you beat me too it. I swear Donnie sometimes sounds like my dear 96 year old Dad. “Nobody told me” “I think I’ve been here before” “I just don’t remember”

  13. Old Quaker says:

Why would anyone believe Perdue and Cotton, 2 guys obssesed with cutting off immigration and both are just plain nasty. Durbin is known as a straight shooter. If past behavior means anything….

    13
  14. David Perdue is nothing more that a wannabe machine politician and brown-nosing flunky for the GOP’s leadership. As a Georgian, I can tell you that he has no integrity, no decency, no brains, and no morals. Don’t waste your time on anything he says, just like Trump. He’s every bit as untrustworthy.

    14
  15. I love it that they think they’re believable after waiting 2 days to speak up. Bless their hearts.

  16. “the base,” what an apt name.
