Criminal Defense Lawyer Alert

April 01, 2013 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

North Carolina has recently become the homeland for reason and intelligence.  Their Lege is trying to make couples wait two years until they are granted a divorce.

They are calling it The Healthy Marriage Act.

During that time, the couple would have to complete courses on improving their communications skills and conflict resolution.

It would also strike from the current law

It would also strike from the current law a provision that says “isolated incidents of sexual intercourse” don’t count against the one-year waiting period. It’s not clear if that means an occasional fling with your estranged partner does count against you under the proposed law.

Waiting periods for handgun purchases vary from county to county in North Carolina, but none are over 90 days.

Don’t want to live with an abusive man for two years?  No problem.

And in other news, Newt Gingrich will not be moving to North Carolina.

Thanks to Carl for the heads up.

Be social and share!

  1. Sam in Kyle says:

Knowing the mentality of legislators, the word “consensual” won’t be part of the “isolated incidents” phrase.

  2. Perhaps they should have the waiting period to get married.

The republicans are supposed to be the party of small government.
They sure are adding more and more layers of government.

  3. UmptyDump says:

Amazing how – within the party that always boasted its support of “individual freedoms” – there are factions so willing to restrict them unreasonably.

  4. Ralph Wiggam says:

So if I’m in a cabin in the backwoods, 4 miles down a dead-end gravel road, is that isolated enough?

I think Roget invented the Thesaurus just for lawyers.

  5. Well, considering how many cheating fools one finds in legislatures these days, they probably put that in there to give themselves time to hide the assets.

Seriously, so much for smaller government. When I was a kid my Dad always admired Libertarians for their consistency, he didn’t vote for them but he did appreciate them, in a head shaking kind of way. For a group of people who like to shout about standing firm on their principles they seem to have difficulty figuring out what they are.

Deb: Absolutely right about the “cheating fools”. This is another Republican attempt to legislate morality, aimed primarily at women.
Besides requiring counseling, do they include a transvaginal ultrasound?

  7. Umptydump says:

In Illinois, they talk about the legislators with “Chicago wives” and “Springfield wives.”

  8. Lorraine in Spring says:

What if one if the parties owns an arsenal of weapons? And is a police officer? Or a judge? Or a Congresscritter? Or a paranoid delusional Teabagger?

    “Isolated incidents” my arse.

  9. Did you hear about the city council is some town in Georgia which is considering an ordinance that *requires* a gun in every house?
I need an extra dose of BP meds!
