Cold Blooded Love

Mike Huckabee

While defending his opposition to same-sex marriage during a CNN interview, Mike Huckabee criticized the modern conception of love as too “emotional and sentimental.”

Now hush, y’all.  That’s what his wife told him.

Thanks to Kathy for the heads up.

Be leery of those who claim such piety–unbelievable that this man is running for president–how is he qualified to lead the country? what a group of hate mongers–

  2. Lorraine in Spring says:

No wonder he’s so judgmental and angry all the time. The poor slob must be miserable in his own marriage to have such disdain for other’s marriages. Just because he didn’t feel the emotional or physiological response to being with his wife all these years doesn’t mean the rest of us are incapable of the feeling of being deeply in love for decades.

Some therapy might benefit his marriage.

Is that what she told him when she said “Not to night”?

  4. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Huh? Is he explaining why he is reluctant to come out of the closet or still trying to determine that obscure moment in time when he decided to become a heterosexual? At a minimum, his wife deserves an answer.

  5. “Is that what she told him when she said “Not to night”?”

for the 10,000th time. dude should just go to a swinger’s party or something, all that back pressure is going to end up killing him one day. are we sure he’s married? anyone ever seen his “opposite sex” wife? I know he has children, at least one of whom is a budding serial murderer, but that’s just a function of biology, practically any woman would do.

@cpinva: Here’s an old [2007 Newsweek article] about Janet Huckabee.

  7. I guess Huckabee follows the Duck Dynasty school of marital advice: marry ’em at 14 and keep ’em barefoot, pregnant and in the kitchen cookin’ yer vittles.

    7
  8. 1 Corinthians 13:13, pastor. Maybe you should read it.

    8
  9. Hollyanna says:

God forbid that we should be emotional and sentimental where love is concerned! No wonder he espouses such hateful political views. What a sad excuse for a Christian.

    9
  10. Cripes! This bozo is MARRIED? Poor woman. Stupid woman.

  11. Polite Kool Marxist says:

Huckster has a sad; it’s Sunday, the toughest day of the week to win recognition as the kraziest kandidate in the klown kar. He tried, but Frothy seems to hold the edge today.

Adrian, check out the link provided by Marcia in CO @6. Think of Mike and Janet as the ‘perfect’ couple. Not only do they deserve each other, think of the two other people spared by their being together.

    12
  13. PKM reminds me of the Victorian who remarked on how fortunate it was that Mr. and Mrs. Ruskin had married each other and thus made two people miserable instead of four.

Love is too “emotional and sentimental”? I guess he’s for that old time Biblical marriage where the man traded a couple of camels and some goats for a wife. Just reinforces my intention to pay him no mind ever. He’s one of that growing list of right wing nutjobs who aren’t even worth listening to for the amusement value.

    13
  14. AliceBeth says:

That must make his wife feel so very loved. What a un-Christian thing to say.

    14
  15. Neither Mr. or Mrs. Huckabee is right! Hell, love is among other things inconvenient because it encompasses so damn much that has to be dealt with in some way. What a sad pair! And he’s taking it out on the country!

    15
  16. Linda Phipps says:

Marcia in CO thank you for the link. I just skimmed it (I just ate) but got enough information to conclude that my previous answer to “Do you want Huckabee for President”, answer, “NO”,wasn’t enough and I have upgraded it to a”HELL NO”.

One thing that might be interesting, is to pit Ms Huckabee and Sarah Palin in a bold new reality show, giving each a tarp, a knife some string and a hatchet and sending them both into the wild to see who would survive. With any luck, neither would.

  17. e platypus onion says:

Why does this not surprise me. Wingnuts always appear to be emotionally dead inside and out except for kissing 1% butts.

    17
  18. Marge Wood says:

Well, I agree that love is a decision and all that but honey, if you don’t get all hot and mushy about the person you are marrying, you might oughta give it some more thought.

    18
  19. I vote for Marge Wood as winner of this thread.

  20. Teh Gerg says:

Hm. Mike Spockabee. Except that Spock is logical.

    20
  21. Rubymay says:

@Marcia in CO — Thank you for the link. Sounds like she’s got the hypocritical thing down pat — maybe just as good at it as her husband is. Yep, they sound like a matched set.

I question whether people who have never experienced love are qualified to define it for others.

    21
  22. And today’s WaPo carried 80 some reasons the Huckster gives for not liking something! This guy is so mixed up! But, then, that’s a requirement for a RWNJ.

    22
  23. Y’know that kinda makes sense in a bizarre way. If you believe marriage is ONLY for creating and raising your biological offspring, then any marriage that doesnt contemplate creating and raising your biological offspring isnt “good”. Probably against adoption as well, unless it takes place at railroad stations when the orphan train arrives.

    23
  24. daChipster says:

    Pastor Huckabee continued:

And I’m reminded, of course, of
    the Prophets And of
    the 4 Evangelists, And of
the Apostles, the early Fathers of
    the Christian religion, and America
    and of course, of
    the Kings and Judges

    – all great men,
    with a good women,
    or several,
    or hundreds, if you’re
Solomon, who is accounted wise –

taking care of their needs and cleaning up after them. Let the congregation Praise God!

    As God intended.
    What true words they spoke,

    What true words, they spoke.

    Let the congregation say Amen.

And now, as I pick up my bass and plug it in, let us turn our hymnals to the true words of that great Psalmist, David…

    …David Bowie:

    Never gonna fall for
    Modern Love walks beside me
    Modern Love walks on by
Modern Love gets me to the Church on Time
    Church on Time terrifies me
Church on Time makes me party
Church on Time puts my trust in God and Man
    God and Man no confessions
    God and Man no religion
    God and Man don’t believe
    in Modern Love

True words, my brothers and sisters. I’m never gonna fall for modern love, cuz Church on Time Makes me Party!!!!

    24
  25. Marcia in CO says:

You are all welcome … I’d never heard a peep about the Huckster’s wife, Janet, either … so wanting to know … I did a search on-line and voila … all the info anyone would ever want on Mrs. Huckster!!

daChipster … the Church on Time Makes me Party must be an off-shoot from the Church of What’s Happening Now … shades of Flip Wilson’s Geraldine character!!

    25
  26. maryelle says:

The Huckster’s remarks are aimed squarely at women (they cry too much) and gay men (too sensitive). He’s more in favor of a business deal than (shudder) love match. Compassion, as in Jesus’ commandment to “..love one another..” entails emotion and empathy. These are decidedly not a Republican virtues.

    26
  27. I wonder if it has ever occurred to Huckabee that he’s just not lovable.

It’s not me, guy. It’s you.

    27
  28. Frank McCormick says:

Amanda Marcotte called this out last week:

    http://www.rawstory.com/2015/06/homophobes-explain-that-marriage-is-to-be-sad-and-dutiful/

“Indeed, if you think marriage should be about duty and not love, and that it’s meant to be a slog from which only death provides sweet relief, then you probably don’t see the problem with bullying gay people into marrying people of the opposite sex and committing to a life of pleasureless sex and resentment. That may, in fact, sound like your life.”

    28
  29. Lorraine in Spring says:

    @Marcia in CO

That link is great. I’m gonna share it if that’s ok w/you.

Thanks for the info. I have new insight on the Huckster now.

    L

    29
  30. Rubymay says:

Oh, thank you, Frank McCormick! I have a dear friend who has always said that of course gays should be married; the rest of us have to suffer through it. Teehee!

    30
  31. Marge Wood says:

Awww, Rhea. That was before all these great comments that came afterward.

    31
  32. Marge Wood says:

Oh c’mon. I think Huckabee shoulda stuck to preaching and ministering. It’s a full time job.

    32
  33. Marge Wood says:

On second thought, maybe Huckabee’s ministry makes more folks unhappy. Time for more coffee. Any of y’all read GRIST? Today’s is full of great stuff.
