‘Bout Time

Go on and reserve your copy.

The consensus view of two dozen psychiatrists and psychologists that Trump is dangerously mentally ill and that he presents a clear and present danger to the nation and our own mental health.

This is not normal.

Since the start of Donald Trump’s presidential run, one question has quietly but urgently permeated the observations of concerned citizens: What is wrong with him? Constrained by the American Psychiatric Association’s “Goldwater rule,” which inhibits mental health professionals from diagnosing public figures they have not personally examined, many of those qualified to answer this question have shied away from discussing the issue at all. The public has thus been left to wonder whether he is mad, bad, or both.

Both.  Definitely both. And it appears to run in his family.

  1. They should offer copies with a big “Spoiler Alert” across the front cover. In case you’re picking it up for a beach read.

  2. Trump is not nuts. He is highly dysfunctional.

He also has a number of mental characteristics that are definitely undesirable but do not qualify for a “not sane” designation.

It needs to be pointed out here that most of the appeal of Trump among his supporters is that he is very much like them. Not elite or above them but like them. And what is that?

    1. Ignorant about most things on which they have strong opinion.

    2. Ill mannered ugly American.

    3. Phony spirituality.

    4. Male chauvinist.

    5. White.

    But not necessarily nuts.

  3. I don’t need a book to tell me that or a medical degree either.

  4. In this laywoman’s terms:

“Nucking Futz. Completely, extremely, totally, horrendously, exceedingly, absolutely, alarmingly, frightfully, ghastly, horrifyingly, shockingly, dreadfully, horribly nutz.”

Okay, I’m out of appropriate words now. Except I hate that bastard.

  5. Teh Gerg says:

Not due out till October 3. That gives them plenty of time to preempt its release.

  6. He is a genuine Son of a bitch – google the word.

  7. In the presser leading up to today’s cabinet meeting Drumpf belched out some tripe about this or that then said “We’ll see you in the board room.” Drumpf is still doing episodes of the Apprentice. He’s inevitable gonna fire somebody during a cabinet meeting.

You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.

  9. Malarkey says:

“Drumpf is still doing episodes of the Apprentice. He’s inevitable gonna fire somebody during a cabinet meeting.”

@Micr I’d agree with you IF he’d fired Flynn, Comey, Dubke, Shaub, Spicer, Priebus, and Scarawhositz (among a host of others) F2F a la “The Apprentice.”

Instead, he relies on his underthings and late-night insomnia tweets to do his dirty work for him.

Trump may talk the tough talk, but he sure don’t walk it!

  10. WA Skeptic says:

He has a knack for humiliating people; he made Rinse Daily wait in a spare van for everyone else to leave, then when it drove away, SCROTUS went to the People’s House.

If I were Rinse I’d be singing like a canary. He must know where a lot of bodies are buried.

  11. The American Psychiatric Association does normally have rules about diagnosing people who aren’t actually your patients, but they’ve decided that Trump is so far from normal that their members can just have at it. Free-for-all and don’t hold back!

  12. Shucks! The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual that APA puts out has already said all that and more. If you have a spare $200 plus (nowadays the cost of an undergrad textbook), you can look it all up. And from the way things are going I think everyone should have one. They might not be able to understand diddly of what is in it or even use it as a doorstop, but really, everyone should have one.

My youngest used to work in a facility researching mental health. She was surrounded by very smart, competent and published professionals. They arrived at the same conclusions about most of the Republican candidates.
