Bernie!

April 28, 2015 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Hey, you gotta love it when an old white guy decides to run for President as a “Democratic Socialist.”

il_570xN.535435305_spjsVermont Sen. Bernie Sanders will announce his plans to seek the Democratic nomination for president on Thursday, presenting a liberal challenge to Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Sanders, an independent who describes himself as a “democratic socialist,” will follow a formal statement with a major campaign kickoff in his home state in several weeks. Two people familiar with his announcement spoke to The Associated Press under condition of anonymity to describe internal planning.

Because of certain Friends in High Places (Hi Carol!), I am the proud owner of more Bernie Sanders swag than anyone else in Texas.

I think it’s a good thing for Democrats and for America to have a contested primary, specially one who talks like this:

  1. I like Bernie. And Elizabeth. I only wish they were a viable Democratic ticket.

But… I’m glad Bernie threw his hat in the ring, even if the only outcome is that it makes it harder for Republicans to call Hillary a socialist.

A moderate only looks like a socialist to a conservative fascist.

    1
  2. He has my vote!!!!

    2
  3. I like Bernie too in the sense that he amuses me. Too bad he didn’t get this urgency to run for POTUS about 1984.

    3
  4. At least there will be an intelligent debate.

    4
  5. Marcia in CO says:

I like Bernie, too … but I’ll still vote for Hillary!! Maybe Bernie could be the VP.

    5
  6. Mark Schlemmer says:

Sorry Marcia, not to be contrarian, but I LOVE Bernie and maybe
Hilary could be the VP. Although, to be completely honest I don’t love Hilary and really hope a new voice emerges in time to build a candidacy. My fear of Hilary and Bill is that they are just part of the corporatist ruling class that is ruining this country and the rest of the world too.

    6
  7. It’s a great thing that Bernie is running. He can and will say the Progressive words that we need. Hillary will never do anything to hurt Wall Street. I’m 81 so I doubt that I’ll be around to vote in ’16 but Bernie would get my vote.

    7
  8. Jeez, Twain, it’s only a year and a half away. Since when does being 81 mean you’ve got one foot in the grave?

    8
  9. linda phipps says:

Marcia, don’t ever suggest wasting Bernie in a VP job. We need him in the senate. I would love to believe he could win the presidency because he is the finest man in politics we have had for a very long time. If anything he will keep Hilary honest.

    9
  10. I agree with the Hilary concerns, and she’s light years better than anyone in the Republican clown car.

I’d work my ass off for Elizabeth and Bernie – in that order. America is in dire need of folks like them.

    10
  11. I’m for Bernie. To me, Hillary is only “better than the Republican.”

    11
  12. Mary in San Antonio says:

I love Bernie! I wish we had more senators like him, especially from Texas.

    12
  13. Twain I too am 81 and I look forward to working to get out the democratic vote and voting in 2016. Also looking forward to what Bernie Sanders will bring to the democratic debates.
To cope with what these two have to say the repugs will have to get past the bullshit. And this ain’t my last rodeo!

    13
  14. I’d vote for Bernie. As much as I’d love a female president, I’m not voting for Hillary; she’d make the best and sanest Republican candidate though. I don’t want another Republican-lite masquerading as a democrat. If Elizabeth Warren were to run, I’d vote for her in a heart beat.

    14
  15. Elizabeth Warren for President and Al Franken for veep.

    15
  16. @Debbo
Glad you have a preference. But I am committed to working my a$$ off for Hilary, Bernie, Elizabeth, or whoever our party nominates. IMO in ’16 it is more important that a T-hadist NOT win than it is important which Democrat wins.

    16
  17. I completely agree, Micr. Hillary isn’t my favorite, but if she wins the Democratic nomination, I’ll bust my tail trying to get her elected. I want NO chance for a Republican to win.

    17
  18. UmptyDump says:

    Uh … which Waltons?

(You had to watch black-and-white TV to get that one.)

    18
  19. UmptyDump says:

Wouldn’t watching Bernie and Rick Perry run into each other be a hoot?!

    19
  20. Aw, gee! I remember Bernie when he was a House member. He pretty much always showed up for work looking like he just got spit out of a disgusted spin dryer. He was really classed his look up for work in the Senate, and boy, do I appreciate him. Yes, the Senate and the country is better of because of him. But I have thunk a thought: would he be just the ticket to head the Fed? His whole attitude towards interest rates etc. might make all the difference in the world.

    20
  21. AliceBeth says:

Would love to vote for Bernie. Would love to say something funny here, but if there are three candidates and Bernie runs as an independent, voting for him will split the vote for the Democrat and a Republican will again be elected. We have seen it happen before with Ralph Nader.

Not voting for the Democrat is giving the Republican the advantage and NONE of them running are anywhere near qualified (or sane enough) for the job.

    21
  22. a bernie pres with a hilliary v pres ticket. it would blow away the clown car

    22
  23. Marcia in CO says:

I saw on-line that Bernie will run as a Dem Socialist … I think that’s the correct title … not as an Independent! He will take our side as a Democrat.

When it comes time for me to mark my mail-in ballot, if my gut says Mark X for Bernie … I will. But, for now, Hillary is still my first choice and if it works out that she might end up the V.P. instead of the Prez … As long as it isn’t a RWNJ … I’ll be good to go!! One way or another, we have to keep a Democrat in the Oval Office. Any other option is simply too damned frightening!!

    23
  24. maryelle says:

Bernie Sanders has more integrity than anyone in either party, but we do need him in the Senate when Hillary wins and the Dems retake the Senate, God willing. His candidacy will help shine the light on his common sense proposals which could help save our middle class.

    24
  25. Angelo Frank says:

Unfortunately I doubt the corporate media will give Bernie the time of day.

    25
  26. I have no doubt that Bernie has a very clear idea of what would happen if he ran as an Independent. He’s not going to hand the election to any Republican. He refers to himself as a Democrat Socialist, but he’s never said he was an Independent. He’ll challenge Hillary as a Democrat.

I agree 1000% with Micr. I’ll stand behind and vote for whichever one is nominated.

    26
  27. daChipster says:

I can’t wait until one of the right wing nut-ninjas – Wagging Tongue, Flapping Gums – calls him a fascist socialist.

    27
  28. Hollyanna says:

Love Bernie–even if he only serves to push HRC to the left. We need more like him in the Senate, the House, the White House, the governors’ mansions, etc., etc., etc.

    28
  29. http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/give-em-hell-bernie-20150429 a nice article by Matt Taibbi in the Rolling Stone.
I’ve known and supported Bernie for many years, the only thing that would surprise me about him is if he showed up with golf clubs in tow, I’d drop dead at that sight. He’s the real deal and his major stregnth is that he talks to everyone, Years ago when he was running people had Bush signs and Bernie signs on their lawns. Dismiss him at your peril.
