And the winner of NH is… and what’s left

February 10, 2016 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Sanders dominated the Democratic primary with as close to a home-court advantage as you can have without actually being from New Hampshire.  There is a solid third of the Republican Party that keep white sheets on hangers instead of in a linen closet.  They catapulted Trump to victory.

Although 8% of the vote is still out, the die is cast solidly enough for the outcomes to allow us to name our winner.  Virtually everyone chose Bernie to defeat Hillary, and a handful of us correctly identified the top five finishers on the GOP side as Trump, Kasich, Cruz, Bush and Rubio.  However, only one person picked Kasich to finish as high as he did, and has the rest in order, with Christie in 6th to boot! For a second straight week, congrats to PDiddie.  The rest of us better step it up, as PDiddie seems to have a disturbingly uncanny insight into the mind of the average voting snacilbupeR.

As to what it all means?  Well, I think we will bid Snarly and Mental Ben adieu.  The Outlaw Jersey Whale is probably slouching towards oblivion as well.  The Rubio Bubble has burst, he will be shoring up for the swing south.  Cruz will remain on hand as the Teavangelical.  Bush is climbing the ranks of the Neocons but suddenly John Kasich – who risked his OH voter registration by relocating to New Hampshire since Labor Day – is now the flavor of the weak.

The campaign trail splits from here with the Democrats heading to caucus in Nevada, where labor usually plays an outsize role.  Bernie has picked up some locals, including the IBEW, but earlier this year Sanders campaign shenanigans ticked off the powerful Culinary Union, who have nevertheless declined to endorse anyone this cycle.  Meanwhile Hillary has the national endorsement of the SEIU, the most powerful labor player in Nevada.

The GOP, on the other hand, heads to South Carolina, cradle of rebellion.  So, obviously, Trump has the advantage.  But as the field narrows, so will his leads.  His support seems to have a top-end.  But he will continue to attack whoever is closest to him, and right now that seems to be Kasich:  listen for the words “Lehman Brothers” to echo about the Palmetto State, yawped by the mouth of a New York Palmetto Bug.

Both the Dem NV Caucus and the GOP SC Primary take place on Saturday, Feb. 20th.  So study up!

  1. There was an office pool of sorts here. It ran Bernie as #1 on the Dem side, but Trump was not favored to finish as the GOP #1. We all had a sneaking suspicion about Kasich and that proved to be true. What is really proving out is on the GOP side, things are a jumble and will probably remain so even after Carson and Christie bid farewell. The fewer clowns left in the car, the more bloody the fighting on that side. As for the remaining state primaries, the gang here does not gin up any numbers until a few days beforehand, so I have to get used to the quiet!

Congratulations to PDiddie! Again!! Your insight into the snacilbupeR is remarkable. Are you a PhD in abnormal psychology or the person who does the point spreads for the NV books?

As for the future of Gov Cartman, aka the Outlaw Jersey Whale outside of prison stripes, the beached whale might be dragged to sea for one last swim. After all, SC is a coastal state and the RNC really does not like that Cr-ooze devil. He did land a solid hit on the Robotic Rutabaga. So, will the wounded whale be benched or brought onto the field for a final play to take out the Cr-oozer?

Where is Hillary’s home state? NY, IL, AR, DC? I mean, I figured IL is her home state, which borders Iowa, but gee, nobody seemed to want to mention that incessently when she “won” Iowa.

  4. I’m a 65 year old woman who has been volunteering for Bernie for many years. Don’t ever imagine that Bernie’s prospects for success are mere wishful thinking. I’ve seen him succeed in reaching even some Republicans, time and again here in Vermont.

If you want to see meaningful change, it will take hard work from ordinary people, but it’s doable.

Volunteer for Bernie! We’re worth it.

I see on Yahoo.com that Jersey Whale is calling it quits. But there was no mention of anyone else turning tail and leaving!!

Sue Prent, congratulations to Senator Sanders and Team Sanders for the resounding victory in NH last night! My wife and I are in NV; ready to caucus for Senator Sanders and bring as many votes to the caucus as we can with us. At last, a candidate who hears “us.” Not only will his sound logic appeal to snacilbupeR voters, he’s engaging many people who have never voted because they have felt there was never a real choice. The enthusiasm for the “real choice” was loud and clear in NH. Give the people a choice, and watch them vote!

PKM, glad you and your wife are ready to promote Sanders in NV. Need to keep the Bern hot!

I am hoping that something comes up to bite The Donald in the butt soon as he definitely appeals to the white, un/under-educated voter and there are a lot of those people around and they do vote. They don’t think, learn, read, study, but they do vote which is not to our advantage.

  9. The OUTLAW JERSEY WHALE? Magnificent! Did you make that up? You have made my day. Thank you.

Carly is vowing to stay in the race. Even by Republican presidential candidate standards, she’s extraordinarily self-deluded.

  12. Much as I like what Bernie stands for, I am still convinced that Hillary has more of the qualifications to be head of State, foreign policy, legislative and she knows what it is to be treated as second class. I remember how the Republicans during Bill’s administration demeaned her at every turn, as she tried to make important contributions to the country, especially with regards to health care.
I am also concerned with the online machismo of the Bernie Bros and supporters who have taken misogyny too far in support of their candidate.
I am also old enough to remember the failure of liberal Dem George McGovern, whom I supported, in the 1972 general election which gave us Nixon.
We can’t let that happen again.

  13. Just heard on MSNBC–Carly is out.

maryelle, there are suspicions that the “bernie bros” are trolls and are not in the least connected to the Sanders Campaign. Probably some keyboard commandos working out of Karl Rove’s basement.

Someone please wake up Jim Gilmore and tell him the train is at the station, it’s time to get off.

Another old broad for Sanders weighing in….

I simply adore him and so do many of my other old lady friends. He’s honest, authentic and passionate.

I’ve sent him money and will do so again.

I dislike Hillary, always have. The only way I’ll vote for her in the general is if she’s facing Cruz.

He’s a horrible, vile, despicable, cretinous asshole.

  16. Marcia in CO says:

Yes, Carly and Christie are both OUT now … but the ugliest of the ugly are still acting like howler monkeys.

Hillary or Bernie … I’ll be voting for whomever it is that comes out on top … as long as they are BLUE & DEMOCRAT!!

  17. Maryelle,
I was the only one with a McGovern sign on his front lawn. But that was then when people were tired of Democrats. It’s a new time with people finally seeing through Reagan’s legacy. I think Bernie is showing people they don’t have to buy what Wall Street is selling. There are lots of primaries left so we shall see, but I think Bernie is in tune with people across the political spectrum. Hillary got the votes of old folks and rich people; Bernie got all the rest. It’s making me hopeful for the first time in 30 or 40 years. A long time to wait.

    19
  18. I’m with you Maryelle. I’ll vote for the Democrat either way, but I am pulling for Hillary.

I’ll vote for whoever gets the Democratic nomination. Nobody’s talking about Blumberg. Should we be?

  20. So, after the blood letting… If dog spoke in Iowa, did the heathens speak in New Hampshire?

(I posted the above under Primo’s invitation; it really belongs here.)
