About That Lion Killer

July 28, 2015 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Okay, if you’re on social media you know all about the American dentist who bribed Zimbabwe officials $55,000 to kill a beloved and iconic 13 year old lion, who was then skinned and beheaded.

His name is Walter Palmer and he’s a dentist in Minnesota.

Cecil the lion, known for his black mane, was about 13 years old and a famous attraction for wildlife tourists in Zimbabwe until, earlier this month, he was tempted outside a national park using bait and shot with a bow and arrow. He is believed to have taken 40 hours to die.

He’s a repeat customer.

In 2008, Palmer pleaded guilty to a felony charge tied to his shooting of a black bear in an unauthorized area of western Wisconsin, according to federal court documents.

You can flip over here and see all the other trophy animals he’s hunted.

But here’s the part you didn’t know but probably suspected.  This sumbitch is a Republican.  Here ya go.

Click the little one to see the big one.  He’s a Romney donor.

  1. JJ… He USED to be a dentist in Minnesota. He no longer has a practice….thanks to social media.

The “guide” has already had his membership terminated from this group.

Both should stand trial for animal cruelty, at minimum. JMHO.

    1
  2. Yelp was full of posts attacking him. He’d better find a new way to make a living. Note that if he can afford to go on such hunts – and pay $55k bribes – his dental practice must have been ripping people off badly.

    2
  3. He is a disgusting piece of human filth. The penalty for poaching in China is death, this guy deserves no less for the torture, killing, skinning and beheading of this lion.

    3
  4. Let this guy go to jail. Perhaps someone there will enjoy hunting him.

    4
  5. SteveTheReturned says:

Death by arrow is a horrible, lingering, painful way to die. Why do you think alleged human beings like Ted Nugent are so into bowhunting? So glad to see this dentist getting the public notoriety he deserves.

  6. Old Mayfly says:

Sounds like Cecil the Lion was as close to a tame lion as one in a nature preserve can be. That man Walter Palmer is no hunter. He is a sorry excuse for a human being.

  7. JAKvirginia says:

I guess after filling teeth all day, there’s nothing like killing a lion to make you feel like a man. Sad bastard.

    sick sick sick

  9. AliceBeth says:

I hope he suffers. I hope he suffers public humiliation. I hope he suffers financial ruin. I hope he suffers pain. What an awful excuse for a human being. The kind of person who thought Romney would make a good President.

    9
  10. Hollyanna says:

What a he-man to bring death to a lion that had become habituated to the presence of humans! His family must be so proud. Surely he could have had some fine “enhancement” surgery for the $55K he spent for his trophy lion. What a tragic waste.

    10
  11. He should be returned to Zimbabwe and held accountable. They want him back.

Shooting radio collared animals happens in America. In Alaska, the goobernor authorized the taking of wolves by airplane/helicopter and some of the first to go were radio collared wolves from Denali Park. Nearly two decades of wolf research was wiped out in a few days. Denali wolves were acclimated to humans and were easy targets for airborne killers. All to save moose and caribou for wingnut pols campaign contributor friends. Bears got the flying ax,too.

  13. Linda Phipps says:

He be sent back to go to trial, and then get the max, in an African jail. Even that would be too good for him.

    13
  14. Linda Phipps says:

I expect that extradition would be difficult, and the Kochs will fund his legal get out of jail free card. I wonder if his wife and kids are sticking by him.

    14
  15. I hope they fine him over a million dollars and take away all his guns and bows and arrows and never let him have another one.

    15
  16. SteveTheReturned says:

40 hours. 40 hours, NBC News reports, from the time this alleged human being shot an arrow into that lion, to when they tracked the lion down and ended his suffering with a gun shot. There are no words.

  17. Zyxomma says:

I’m too disgusted to say anything that wouldn’t offend Momma, so I took my comment to Wonkette.

    17
  18. So he had to hire someone to lure a protected animal out of a preserve in order to shoot it as it stood still in his sight? Thats as bad as going to a bird game preserve and shooting birds just released from cages. Now who the hell would do that?

    Oh . . . wait!

And he managed to miss and hit his best friend full on in the face. Thats who.

There is something about this hunting stuff that seems to bring out the worst in Rethugs. Or is that just an every day walk in the park for them?

    18
  19. I’m a Minnesotan and this scumbag has been all over the news. I think it’s safe to say that he has become universally loathed.

He lost his hunting privileges after killing the bear far from the legal hunting area. He then lied about where he shot the bear. When caught in that lie, he said he was “confused” about his location.

This time, he first denied killing the lion. Then the photo of his disgusting smiling face looming over the dead lion showed up.

Scumbag is too nice. Here’s something much worse to call him: Cheney-esque.

    19
  20. Elizabeth Moon says:

My mother’s boss, who was a millionaire, was urged by others to go on safari in Africa back in the late ’50s or early ’60s. He went. He shot things. He quit hunting after that. Once was enough. He went back to Africa at least once (I think twice) with his camera. No guns.

    20
  21. I don’t know if it will help, but here are some petitions you can sign to deplore the murder of Cecil and help protect other lions from the same fate. Some of them may be linked to my name, though I’ve tried to cut the URLs down so they aren’t. Some may put you on an e-mailing list, but you can always unsubscribe whenever you want.

  22. @e platypus — I remember hearing about that at the time, and signing petitions to try to stop it. Disgusting.

As for this guy, he is a horrible excuse for a human being.

    22
  23. How anyone can consider hunting for animals under such conditions as the ones in this horrible instance is beyond my comprehension. There is nothing “sporting” about it. It is tantamount to shooting animals at a zoo. Raising deer for “hunting” by paying shooters is big business here in Texas and I find it disgusting.

    23
  24. Polite Kool Marxist says:

What an expletives deleted idiot. The late night comedians roasted this fool with the best suggestion being that he try the little blue pills for remediation of his inadequacies and leave innocent animals in peace.

Feeling a bumper sticker here, Marge Wood. “Walter Palmer, the Dick Cheney of Dentists.”

    24
  25. maryelle says:

I have never understood the urge to kill animals for sport.
Killing has to be the worst aspect of human nature and yet it is tolerated, even celebrated by many. Taking the lives of these beautiful creatures when totally unnecessary is criminal and lowers humans to the level of savages.

    25
  26. Marge Wood says:

Sounds like he needs to find a new hobby.

    26
  27. Marge Wood says:

    PKM, thanks for the idea.

    27
  28. maryelle, I believe that the urge to kill animals for sport–especially tame animals–occurs in inverse proportions to the size of a guy’s personal equipment.

    28
  29. Ruth Lloyd says:

A Rare lion with a black main was shot down by this man. He knew what he was doing and hand the money to do it. As is said in my post, his balls should be cut off. The people he hired and took the tracking collar off also should be punished. This majestic lion has been protect for 13 years and it took inhuman piece of shit to destroy it. I hope we see what punishment he receive. Let’ not forget Money and bullshit talks.

    29
  30. e platypus onion says:

The hunter is being stalked. No one knows his location and Zimbabwe wants him for poaching. At least one professional hunter(PH) has his privileges suspended and may be lost forever.

  31. Linda Phipps says:

If his wife has any brains she would be cleaning out the bank account and high tailing it in the opposite direction of wherever he his flapping his mealy mouthed crap about feeling really bad. Unless of course the only reason she was not on the canned hunt is because she had a tennis lesson.

    31
  32. Marion (formerly known as MM) says:

He’s killed so many “trophy” animals before and apparently it hasn’t affected his wife in the past. I’m doubtful she’s any more upset by this one. Except, of course, for the inconvenience to herself and her family.

Thank you LynnN@33, I was thinking along similar lines, wondering if Orin Scrivello, DDS (Steve Martin) offered ‘professional courtesy’ to other dentists.

Palmer’s practice was closed here today. Dunno if it would have been open normally or not, but there was a pretty spirited demonstration/protest there. At least according to eyeSoars’Spouse’s runner friend, who hung out there most of the day. The papers also showed a pile of stuffed animals in front of the clinic.

It’s been on the front page of both Twin Cities papers, and I suspect his practice partners may not be very happy with him. Hopefully it will cut heavily into his ability to pay his “hunting” expenses.

    34
  35. e platypus onion says:

Guy pays big bucks for “trophy” hunt there has to be a video of the hunt somewhere. Would love to see it. He’d want to relive his memories over and over.
