Fun With Guns: Here, Let Me Slap You In The Face Edition

May 27, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

Way to go, NRA pigs.

Republican Tony Strickland is running in California’s 25th congressional district.  The day after the horrifying massacre in California, Tony decides it’s time to double down on gun ownership.  The wrong way.

Screen Shot 2014-05-27 at 9.17.14 AM… voters outside of Los Angeles received a pro-gun robocall from Republican House candidate Tony Strickland a day after a mass shooting at the University of California Santa Barbara.

SantaClarita.com posted audio of the robocall on Saturday, in which Strickland, a candidate for California’s 25th congressional district, touts his commitment to Second Amendment rights and support from pro-gun groups such as the National Rifle Association.

His campaign claims that the calls were scheduled before the shooting.  You can cancel robo calls up until 3 minutes before they go out.

Rule #1:  There is never a right time to deliver a sucky message.

Thanks to David for the heads up.

And They Call Him “Your Honor”

Mississippi justice sometimes seems to be an oxymoron.

Judge Bill Weisenberger, a county court judge in Mississippi found himself in a flea market and found a young mentally disabled man helping people unload their wares to display.  He worked for tips to try to buy a bicycle.

The Judge felt the necessity to address the young man thusly,

Screen Shot 2014-05-27 at 9.00.28 AMCathy Hendrix, a vendor at the Flea Market, told the Clarion-Ledger that on May 8, she saw Rivers standing on the sidewalk asking if vendors needed help unloading and loading vehicles. “That young man was wanting to work to earn money to buy a bike.”

Hendrix’s sister, Tammy Westbrook, said she saw Weisenberger “rear back and slap” Rivers twice before yelling “Run, boy, run,” and “Run, n*gger, run” as the young man bolted away. She said Weisenberger bragged about what he had done afterward.

The judge, of course, is a Republican.  He took down his campaign website after this event, but the URL is TheJusticeJudgedotcom.  You’ll note that he does not say how much justice.  Maybe he used it all up the week before and needed some ying to his justice yang.

Hey Mississippi, straighten up and fly right.  Or left.  Maybe you need to fly left.

Holy Crap: Just Doing That Leviticus Stuff

May 26, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

The book of Leviticus, the one that forbids gays from being gay and you can’t eat shellfish and assorted other wacky rules, says that it’s okay to have slaves just so long they are not Israelites.

Reginald Wayne Miller, president and founder of Cathedral Bible College, took that little Leviticus part out for a spin.

It did not go well, even in the Bible Belt of South Carolina.

Screen Shot 2014-05-26 at 9.03.32 AMAgents with Homeland Security Investigations filed a criminal complaint against Miller this week saying they have probable cause to charge him with forced labor, a felony that carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years for each count. Investigators say Miller forced foreign students to work at the campus and his personal residence for as little as $25 per week. Miller threatened to cancel the students’ visas if they complained or didn’t comply with his demands, according to an affidavit filed this week.

Miller crossed that fine line between snake oil salesman and man of the cloth.  In 2006 he was arrested for lewdness and prostitution after exposing himself to an undercover cop.  His Christian-based school for elementary through high school students closed.

And get this.  Miller opened his school at the “former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base in 1995, purchasing property at a reduced rate under a federal program that gave incentives to educational facilities relocating to closed military sites.”

And these, my friends, are the people who want to privatize public education.

Thanks to Carl for the heads up.

Bless Their Hearts

The GOP is having a “Leadership Conference” next week in New Orleans.

It will feature amazing leaders like Mike Huckabee, Donald Trump, Sarah Palin, Ron Paul, Herman Cain, Liz Cheney, JC Watts & Erick Erickson.

Maybe I got confused.  Maybe it the “Quitter’s Conference.”

Ted Cruz is going to speak on Saturday along with Rick Perry.  My bet?  They will snatch each other bald over this Presidential thing.  You can’t have two Presidents from Texas at the same time.  They know it.  You know it.  Somebody has flame-out.

Remember This Dude?

Remember the dude who scored the Presidential debates and then, just for fun, hung a chair (think: Clint Eastwood) by a noose from his business sign?

Remember how he said that was not, absolutely not, totally and completely not, not racist.

And neither is this.

Because, dammit, we never learn the history of white people.  I mean, it’s totally ignored.

Same dude.  Same mental health issues.

It’s a good thing we live in post-racist America.  Wouldn’t it be butt-ignorant if there were still racists out there?

Thanks to Vickie for the heads up and the great picture near Ellinger on Texas Highway 71.

Muslim! Muslim! The Muslims Are Coming.

May 25, 2014 By: Juanita Jean Herownself Category: Uncategorized

We here in Texas don’t cotton to Muslims.  You can’t trust them, you know.  Every single one of them came to this country with intent to blow something up.

Near Dallas.

Fabby

Fabby

A candidate for a House seat in Ellis County is raising questions about one of his opponent’s donors because the donor is a Muslim.

T.J. Fabby, a small-business owner from Red Oak, said that voters should be aware that Ali Sharaf, a wealthy North Texas businessman and donor to several Republican candidates, is backing opponent John Wray, a former Waxahachie mayor.

Yes, it appears that Sharaf is the owner of Victron Energy and the Texas Best Smokehouse franchise.  (Is that allowed?)  He gave a $5,000 political donation.

And how did Wray defend taking the donation?  Did he stand up and say, “This is America, dammit!”  Did he say, “He’s an American citizen and he has a right to donate money to a campaign?”  No, he did not.

His defense?

“He’s been very supportive of Christian charities in the area,” he said.

Honey, that’s just a shiver looking for a spine to run up.  So that’s the smell test?  Not freedom, not even liberty, but how much money do you give Christian charities?

And, of course, Fabby responded thusly …

Sharaf “can say that he’s a peaceful Muslim all that he wants to, but the fact is he’s declared war right here with the money he’s given to people,” he said.

Holy cow.  That there is some diesel powered hate.

The only weird thing about this story is why the fool tarnation is Sharaf supporting Republicans?  How much self-loathing do you have to have to be a Muslim and give money to a Republican?

Apparently, a crazy amount.
