Newtenfreude

January 27, 2012 By: Juanita Jean Category: Uncategorized

I am so sorry that Newt did poorly in the debate last night.  I really want him to win.  And it’s not because I’m a crook.

The good news: Newt Gingrich has reportedly received a former House colleague’s endorsement, something that has not been very common.

The bad news: It’s from Randy “Duke” Cunningham, the former California GOP congressman who is currently serving a 100-month sentence in federal prison on conspiracy, fraud and tax evasion charges.

So the congressvermin stick together, huh?

You can read the whole endorsement letter here, but I’ve already cut the good parts for you:

Newt, a voice out of the past. Down but not out and still fighting. First I do not want anything from you but have been watching the debates. I have 80% of inmates that would vote for you. They might not be able to but their extended families will.

You know, one of the striking things about Newt is that he can’t get the endorsement of his former colleagues because he’s such a whiny nincompoop.  So, this has got to mean a lot to him.

And that’s where the Newtenfreude comes in.

Thanks to Suzy for the heads-up.

  1. The Republican Party’s dilemma with Newt is much the same as a fox who has his leg stuck in a trap. That fox has got to chew his leg off in order to survive. But it’s going to cause a bloody mess and leave a stump that will forever give him trouble.

  2. Does this mean the Rs are going to start supporting voting rights for convicted felons?

  3. Heck, I thought “Duke” had developed a well-honed sense of irony in the slammer–until I read his entire missive. What a putz.

  4. “…80% of inmates that would vote for you”

Yeah, nothing like knowing you’ve got the convicted felon vote all locked up (pardon the pun).

There’s a program on the Military History Channel called “Dogfights”, one episode of which features none other than the above-mentioned “Duke” Cunningham, whose biggest claim to fame before being elected to Congress (and current residency in the Gray Bar Hotel) was as a jocko fighter pilot in the Vietnam War. Every time I see that episode and watch him talk about what a badass he was, I laugh…the only thing he’s piloting these days is a mop and bucket…

The best part is the Dole comment
This prompted an apocryphal Washington exchange between a perplexed Gingrich and Dole. “Why do people take such an instant dislike to me?” asked a perplexed Gingrich, to whom Dole bluntly explained: “Because it saves them time.”

Huh. Why am I not surprised Newt gets the convicted felons support.

Although I was surprised Tom DeLay doesn’t support him….birds of a feather and all.

  7. As bad as Newt is, he’ll always be one ring of Hell above Tom DeLay.

  8. Newtenfreude indeed: the comments are savage today. Randy Cunningham? and who’s Bob Ney supporting? The paper said “The Hammer” (they called him that!) was on the radio bad-mouthing Newt. At least they didn’t advertise what stupid radio show had him on. http://liquiddaddy.blogspot.com/
